Question About Anglia Water Bills

Options
If the previous occupant of the property owes money to Anglia Water ( £3000) would the new occupants have to pay for the bill?

If you say No then how will Anglia Water get that money back if the previous occupants have left the country?

Comments

  • No, it's not the new occupants bill. I don't know how they will recover the money owed but I don't think that leaving the country will mean the old occupants won't have to pay it.

How did anyone run up a bill for £3,000 for water?

I would have thought by then Anglian would have instigated legal action; and that will still stand if they return to UK. They might put a debt collection agency on the case.

The annoying aspect is that all other Anglian customers will pay for that loss; it won't come from Anglian's profits.

Its very easy to run up a water bill, you just don't pay.

As water companies can't cut off a domestic supply the only fear from the debtor is having a debt and if they have one debt they probably have many more.

Anglia will pass it to a debt agency to chase.

The point I was making is that I thought Anglian would have instigated DCA/legal action before the debt had reached £3,000

As long as the new tenant provide an opening meter reading from the day they move in. Otherwise part of that big comsumption will be absorb in the new tenant bill.

Sorry, tenant or occupant. Very important in case the bills are based on estimations instead of real readings.
