What accounts are the solicitors waiting to settle?0

Make the complaint and include in that complaint that they tried to dissuade you from making the complaint by threatening you with more delays. The complaint will be investigated by a different member of staff, not the ones dealing with your case. A complaint may well speed up their work.
Personally I would also be making an SAR under GDPR which would include all emails sent. I’d be wanting to make life difficult for them especially since “settling accounts” is so vague and I’d want to know specific accounts so that I could go chase them myself and complain to the company who is delaying things. Not recommending you do that as it will probably delay getting your money. They may well get paralegals or legal secretaries to collate the data, so in theory it shouldn’t add any more delay but I wouldn’t trust that. Not sure if we’re allowed to make SARs on behalf of deceased relatives.0
