Why are you assuming that this is a training issue?

You have a customer throwing a wobbly over a woman breastfeeding and the woman breastfeeding. You've had a long day making coffee for idiots and you've had enough.  You decide the breastfeeding woman is less likely to kick up a fuss than the customer who is already doing so, so you ask them to cover up.  Problem solved as far as you're concerned.

    Not a training issue.

You highlighted the error of your argument.  It is a training issue as the legal status is you can't stop someone breastfeeding.  If they had or remembered the training they would have known that.

And besides which, the OP reported that Costa had told her that it WAS indeed a training issue:

Just to feedback, I did get in contact with Costa customer service. They were very apologetic and tracked down the member of staff. Apparently the staff member wasn’t aware that breastfeeding was allowed in store. So training would be given.

I subscribe to Readly, you get 1000s of magazines online included.  I searched for Playboy and was surprised to see it was included.  I had a look at one and there were very few full size pictures of women and none were naked.  The vast majority of the magazine was written articles, not pictures.

Maybe they had too many complaints? :p

Playboy decided to move away from nudity some years back...(Google tells me it was 2016; then came back in 2017)   Mostly because the market for {ahem} "gentlemen's specialist literature" had mostly moved online.  Then the magazine went online only in 2020 apparently.

On topic.... the 2017 issue that returned to nudity apparently contained a pro-breastfeeding article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38963007
I need to think of something new here...

Back to the subject at hand.
Screaming baby vs woman quietly breastfeeding baby
I know which option works for me when having a coffee.
I do wonder who is being offended as small children will most likely know it is a baby being fed so easily answered, plus in my experience most breastfeeding feeding in public is discretly done.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

  • To go against the herd here there is a lot of self-righteous indignation on this thread.
Shock horror - the OP was incorrectly asked to leave by a NMW employee and there is suddenly lots of anger and outrage.
The company realised the error of their ways and the OP received a swift and sincere apology. The likelihood of a repeat recurrence is unlikely.
Who would want the responsibility of running or owning a company nowadays?

Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world. Unless a very small percentage of people were always bottle fed most of us were brought up on it. People who are offended by it in a public place are likely sexually repressed. In continents like Africa it happens all the time and no one blinks an eye.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.
