Symbio Energy - E.ON Refugee - when can I switch?
HI all as it says.
Ex Symbio customer, now dumped onto E.ON. Annual Useage 4200kw as no mains gas.
Got the welcome mail from E.ON did all the bits they asked and now want away from them A.S.A.P. as I will be paying 50% than with Neon Reef.
When can I initiate the switch?
Cheers.

Just before Neon reef go out of business.

I'd suggest the rate you'll be paying with Eon will not be as much as 50% higher, and I suspect you've been looking at Eon's tariffs presently on offer to switchers rather than the one you'll be put on which isn't on comparison sites at the moment.2 -
Correct, I have been.spot1034 said:I'd suggest the rate you'll be paying with Eon will not be as much as 50% higher, and I suspect you've been looking at Eon's tariffs presently on offer to switchers rather than the one you'll be put on which isn't on comparison sites at the moment.
So where can I get the details from in terms of KW/H and standing charge prices?

They have said the tariff will be Next Flex, which is basically the Ofgem cap that is presently the default for all SOLRs. Put it into a switching site as your present deal and you can then see it when you select any alternative.PsiDOC said:

It will be more than Neon Reef but nothing like 50%, and Eon have a better chance of making it to the end of the month.0 -

put in your postcode to get the Next Flex tariff for you... DD is cheaper than Pay on bill and prepayment.0 -
I am afraid you are a bit out of touch with reality. My annual cost is 74% higher on Flex against my Symbio rate, £766 v £439. They want £1164 for a fix, +165%, so only +50% is getting off lightly.spot1034 said:I'd suggest the rate you'll be paying with Eon will not be as much as 50% higher, and I suspect you've been looking at Eon's tariffs presently on offer to switchers rather than the one you'll be put on which isn't on comparison sites at the moment.

Yes mine's about the same! I was referring to what Neon Reef are presently offering.molerat said:

I'm in the same boat, I don't mind switching to a supplier that obviously has no long term prospects - otherwise I wouldn't have switched to Symbio! However, as Symbio owed me £100s I've decided to stick with Eon just until I get things straightened out. I understand it is possible to get your money back after switching away, but this would be just making life more complicated than necessary and may delay the refund.I'm guessing that Neon Reef will probably vanish from existence while I'm waiting for the refund and save me having to decide.I'm resigned to the reality that the government's capped price IS the current tariff, at the present time. It's still about 50% more than I was paying to Symbio, but they don't exist any more mainly because their prices were too low. We made the best of a good thing while it existed, now back to reality.3

So NR is 42% more than Symbio and Next is 23% more than NR. If NR do see this out I will be very surprised.

I agree - I'd normally be up for anything that saved money but the present Neon Reef situation keeps reminding me of the old saying 'if it seems too good to be true it almost certainly is'. I thought that if I switched to them and they went bust I could be dealing with up to four different energy companies just as regards electricity, plus another for gas and it just seemed like I'd be making my life unnecessarily complicated.wittynamegoeshere said:I'm in the same boat, I don't mind switching to a supplier that obviously has no long term prospects - otherwise I wouldn't have switched to Symbio! However, as Symbio owed me £100s I've decided to stick with Eon just until I get things straightened out. If they're still in existence when the transfer to Eon is done and dusted, maybe I'll give it another look.3 -
Symbio owe me about £37.00 but with me I always stayed on top of things. I had been with them since April 2019 and like some customers could have just let things rest. However I challenged everything and the most they ever owed me was £100 but I got it down to the level quoted. I certainly would never have allowed it to get to the point where they me owed hundreds of pounds. For me I did well to get cheap electricity for such a very long time. Also for what it is worth I have no animosity towards them and I forgive their constant lying to me.spot1034 said:
