    caixaBank was 2euro.
unicaja did not advise a charge, but the exchange rate was pretty dire.

will keep trying, but the wife is starting to complain about stopping at ATMs. After 30 years of marriage, she knows I'm a tight wad.....women.

I was going to, but the recent posts below from noodledoodleman initiallu indicated I would be charged.
Would using my Santander UK mastercsrd debit card in a Santander ATM be cheaper than the Halifax Clarity card for cash withdrawal? Yes or No.

Unfortunately his posts on the subject have been quite misleading. Use your Santander card in a Santander ATM. No fee should be levied.

i have some time on my hands in Spain over the next few days, so i shall try out some of these banks and report back.
I bank with Santander in the UK too.....think i'll be looking at a switch.....take hate to the grave......
That would be good if you don’t mind. I think an MSE article on where to get the best withdrawals from in Spain would be very helpful judging by the number of questions recently on the subject.
There was a few posts running previously but they're all a few years old now with out of date information so I agree an update would be useful.

The hardest part I found a few years ago, no idea if it's still the same, was that it wasn't even consistent across Spain even for the same bank. It seems far more charged in the tourist regions than elsewhere. For example in Madrid I had no problem withdrawing fee free from a number of banks. However the same banks charged in the Balearics/Canaries.

The exchange rate shown is not relevant when you decline conversion, letting your card do the currency exchange, which you should certainly do with the Clarity.

    Evolution, not revolution
  • Was charge €3.50 in Kephalonia for atm with all of them.
Luckily all restaurants etc in Greece not sure about Spain have to accept card payments now so didn't have to use atm much
    Its a con

Use your Santander debit card in a Santander branded ATM in Spain and you will most definitely not be charged any fee.

OP and thread references the Halifax Clarity card. Not a Santander issued card.

Unintentional, so apologies if anybody was mislead.
After an online visit to Santander, who gave an erroneous response, and a "High Street" branch who were initially unsure until they sought a second opinion - it is now confirmed that a Santander debit card is fee free at a Santander branded ATM in Spain (including the Balearics) and Canaries.
