Ha, I believe you could be onto something! We don't really buy any of that stuff anyway and we're vegan so unless there's a shortage of spuds and lentils we won't be worrying. I do however need to get cracking with the christmas cake!
Oh, Christmas cake!  That was something I meant to add to my To Do list!  Thanks @MandM90
We do ours at the beginning of December, as it's a Genoa cake recipe and doesn't keep ridiculously long.

Bendick's Bittermints and Elizabeth Shaw mint crisps for preference here. If pushed mint Matchmakers and After Eights will do. I don't like any of the big 4 at all really but if I have to show willing I'll eat the toffees from Quality Street.

If anyone can point me to a recipe for making my own mint crispy bits I'll be eternally in your debt.
Try this one - not sure about the coconut though...

Thankyou @Floss - I like the look of one of the source recipes and will have a crack at it sometime soon. I'll let you know how I get on.

And then they do run out of stock (very briefly of course) because of the panic buying in September/October and they say "There, told you so!"
And thus sparks another panic buy.

So Nestle have decided to announce there 'might' be issues with supply of Quality Street chocs this Xmas.

The sweet wrappings are highly likely to be manufactured in China, Vietnam or Thailand. The milk is imported. There's an increasing shortage of chocolate as demand exceeds supply globally.

Buy fewer chocolates and chose something entirely made in the UK.

That's probably 3 people who have just rushed out to buy Christmas cake making stuff. If any of you need a taster I'm available. :)
Seem to remember there was on on the previous mse boards which used smashed up mints for the crispy bits but not managed too track that one down.

Check the dates, bet they're last year's stock, same with all the frozen turkeys that have magically appeared early.

Seems every man and his dog are claiming whatever they sell will be in short supply.
