Hi,no need for chemicals, try this,How to use Coke to clean a toilet
- Pour Coca-Cola along the edges of the toilet bowl — the carbonation will take care of the heavy lifting for you!
- Leave the soda in the toilet overnight.
- The next morning, flush the fizz away and your toilet will look good as new.

That's got be taken from an American website with the reference to "Soda"But yeah, Coke is great for shifting limescale. Well, anything that's acidic would work, really - vinegar, lemon juice, brown sauce, you name it. And the great thing is, it doesn't need to be genuine Coca-Cola - just get the cheapest Aldi or Lidl own-brand stuff you can find at about 40p for a 2-litre bottle, it'll work just as well. It's worth remembering that bleach will - well, bleach - any stains that are clinging to the limescale, and make them pretty much disappear, but it won't actually get rid of the limescale. So it'll just stay there ready for more stains to easily cling to. Anything acidic will actually dissolve the limescale, so it'll help prevent further stains building up.Depends on how hard your water is, you may need more than 1 crack at it.

Harpic Power Plus Active Tablets.
Used when you'll be out of the house for several hours.
I drop 3 into the toilet, let stand for 6 hours and limescale, and staining, has gone.
I live in a very hard water area and limescale is the bane of my life, here.

We have always lived in hard water areas and have had softeners for over 30 years.
They are well worth the expense in our opinion.
No limescale build up and lovely soft water for washing and showering.A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
Thanks for the suggestions.
It was more of a way of cleaning under the rim and believe it or not, attempting to kill any bacteria that may be around (yes, I realise there will be a lot). The actual toilet is fairly clean and we don't have a problem with limescale.
I bleach once every few weeks overnight but didn't know if I was missing out on an easier method like tablets in the cistern for example.0 -
