There have also not been any late payment reminders - the invoices seem to turn up pretty much at random and just include a higher amount each time. So they haven't issued ANYTHING apart from the invoices they would send anyway, and have not contacted me in any other way.

Why do you say they would send the invoices anyway?

They send the invoices specifically because you didn't pay your ground rent.  If you'd paid your ground rent, they wouldn't need to send you further invoices. (Or have I misunderstood?)

So the invoice is the same as a reminder letter.

So you could interpret the invoice like this (using made-up numbers)....
    • Ground Rent (overdue) = £20
    • Cost of sending you this invoice for overdue ground rent = £40
    • Total payable = £60

They never sent any further correspondence that really justifies the additional admin cost. If they said it was 'interest' on the payment, then maybe, but the admin fee is now 200% more than the actual ground rent owed.

The Admin Fee should be based on the time it takes them to produce the invoice (including checking their files etc). I'd guess it might take up to 30 mins.

If you dont want a cheque could you not ask your bank to raise a cheque on your account.
It may mean you have to visit a branch though.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
