Just a quick update as I couldn't find any other updates with my Google/DDG searches for this number.

I can confirm that they're Thames Water "Smarter Homes" consultation visits: The call itself was very polite and not phishing-like at all: but they wanted to book a visit for somebody to come into my home and look at ways to save water, so so out out of paranoia, so before I let a stranger into my home....

I called back on my regular contact number for Thames Water and they confirmed that 08006226623 is the number for their "Smarter Homes" team and they are currently calling to arrange free home efficiency advice.

I've seen a few people commenting that "offering the visit and water saving devices for free seems suspicious", but I gather there's some sort of government initiative for them to find ways to get people to save water... so might be accurate.

I'll update this thread if anything changes (visit booked this week).

Had this at my last rental property. They adjusted our cistern (so it didn't overflow), gave us a new showerhead that mixes in air to save water (our last one was more limescale than showerhead anyway), and gave us helpful advice. No attempt to sell anything,

If you don't want them to come inside your home, ask them to forward the information and material and you will do it yourself.
