Covid Tests for returning UK Vaccinated Travellers

It is absolutely clear for the day 2 test it is purely to get a code for your PLF. Anyone not buying the cheapest piece of tat legally on offer is not a moneysaver.1

I want to travel (and put money back into the economic cycle), I just don't want to be ripped off by pointless tests. So yes, the cheapest legal test to get the reference number for me.Thrugelmir said:
Don't travel then. The choice is yours.Troytempest said:
I agree, if double jabbed lets just get on with life as normal. Everyone has a judgement about how to live - I am travelling to France in a couple of weeks and will need to wear a mask on the plane. When I arrive I will socially distance as much as possible. I don't want to waste money on a test upon return.Butts said:Why is the UK just about the only Country in Europe that insists on testing it's fully vaccinated citizens when they return from visits to European destinations ?
It's not as though rates in most of the other Countries are higher than ours, indeed most are a lot lower.
Are we privy to some secret the rest of Europe is unaware of invoking the draconian treatment foisted upon our travellers ?1 -
Not sure what the situation in the rest of the UK is like but in Scotland anyone can get 2 Free Lateral Flow Tests per week from NHS Scotland.
When the inbound restriction for a PCR is replaced why can't we use these and save a bit of money. It's not going to cost the NHS anymore whatever you use these for.
At least the annoyance of taking it would be ameliorated if it was free.1 -
I have four boxes of LFT's at home. I asked for some earlier in the year, when the Gov told us all to test ourselves, I didn't ask for so many, but that's what the local council gave me.
Yet, I still need to pay some spiv company nearly fifty quid for the same thing?
I believe the phrase "follow the money" springs to mind.0 -
It isn’t the same thing. PCRs need some lab work to get a result and some positives are genome sequenced to identify variants. PCRs should cost more than LFTs.bigfer said:I have four boxes of LFT's at home. You can’t use these at the moment, because the rules are PCR not LFT. Also, the government is not in the business of subsidising the cost of your foreign holiday.

How are they subsidising it if the tests are freely available on demand to be used ?silvercar said:Not sure what the situation in the rest of the UK is like but in Scotland anyone can get 2 Free Lateral Flow Tests per week from NHS Scotland.

Does it really matter if they are utilised for Holiday Testing or other purposes. I imagine the tests have a limited shelf life so why not make sure the stocks are exhausted before their expiry date ?
As I and others have alluded to the end of the PCR 2 Day Testing should be the demise of this invidious procedure for once and all.1 -

shelf life is generally around a year.
day 2 testing will move to LFT testing within the next few weeks, it won’t disappear.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
