Covid Tests for returning UK Vaccinated Travellers

Why is the UK just about the only Country in Europe that insists on testing it's fully vaccinated citizens when they return from visits to European destinations ?
It's not as though rates in most of the other Countries are higher than ours, indeed most are a lot lower.
Are we privy to some secret the rest of Europe is unaware of invoking the draconian treatment foisted upon our travellers ?

If you are flying to Edinburgh you will need to select from the (one?) day 2 test provider(s) on the Scottish site0

Outdated advice, Scotland now accepts any company on the England list.Caz3121 said:If you are flying to Edinburgh you will need to select from the (one?) day 2 test provider(s) on the Scottish siteI'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Too ill to travel then? Do the testing companies report to Dido Hardings goon squad directly?
I shall obey the advice provided by HM gov, but since the whole cake and !!!!!! party is now a complete nonsense, I would rather pay the absolute minimum cost to these jokers.

How do you know rates are lower? All depends on the level of testing undertaken. Which countries have detected the new variants first?Butts said:Why is the UK just about the only Country in Europe that insists on testing it's fully vaccinated citizens when they return from visits to European destinations ?

Why don’t you let your parents book the test for you, you don’t sound old enough to be travelling on your ownbigfer said:Too ill to travel then? Do the testing companies report to Dido Hardings goon squad directly?

I agree, if double jabbed lets just get on with life as normal. Everyone has a judgement about how to live - I am travelling to France in a couple of weeks and will need to wear a mask on the plane. When I arrive I will socially distance as much as possible. I don't want to waste money on a test upon return.Butts said:Why is the UK just about the only Country in Europe that insists on testing it's fully vaccinated citizens when they return from visits to European destinations ?

How many people have been fined ?silvercar said:
First of all you risk a £1000 fine.bigfer said:What would happen if you purchased the cheapest Day 2 test which costs a fiver. Then don't bother turning up to the on site test centre.? You could claim you were ill?
Or self isolating?
I'm flying back from Spain to Edinburgh and there is a centre in Kent offering testing. I am seriously thinking about doing it. Anybody done the same?
if self isolating you are allowed to leave home to take a covid test.
If it is not enforced the testing regime is all smoke and mirrors.1 -
Are you suggesting they are not ?Thrugelmir said:

It's not about detecting the variants it's how you react to them.
Even Ireland a harbinger of restrictions is fast adopting a more progressive policy with regard to travel than us.0
