Thanks' I thought it was strange that no one else had mentioned it on here.It seems that during an update the world of Facebook was deleted, to the outside world it does not exist. Even those that need to fix it can't as it doesn't exist so they can't access it remotely.
That's incorrect, nothing was deleted it was just a DNS issue that prevented access. To put it simply the instructions on how to get to the data was incorrect so no device could access it.1 -

If we are being pedantic, that's not correct either.
Yes Facebook's DNS servers were unreachable. But the reason they were unreachable is because Facebook applied a configuration change to the Internet routers that advertise their Autonomous System* (AS) to the Internet Routers inside all of the other networks that make up the Internet.
The net result was that any Internet router receiving traffic destined for Facebook had no idea what to do with that traffic. It took Facebook so long to recover the situation because they couldn't access their own IT Infrastructure in order to revert the bad configuration change.

A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?0 -
On the news today a former Faceache employee has turned whistleblower before a US senate committee accusing them of being harmful to children. The committee want to reign in FB because they believe they're getting too big for their boots and want to split up Instagram and WhatsApp back into separate companies.

Saying it was a "DNS issue" was probably not the correct way to put it then i just read it was a DNS issue and didn't see the actual cause until now.

Technically it was still a "DNS issue", just a self-inflicted one.
