Igloo transfer to E.ON... I'll wait to see what they offer...

  • Similar situation for me, which is very concerning.

Looking at the latest Igloo Energy tariffs for both electricity and gas and comparing them to the E.ON Next 2 Year v8 tariff, which is the only one provided to me through their quote system, this would result in an annual bill of £5,866 incl VAT, whereas with Igloo it would have been £3,494.

When I first joined Igloo in April this year, my annual fuel cost was estimated at £2,525 and this seemed high back then!  £5,866 is simply taking the p*ss!!!!!

How has this country got into this state of affairs so quickly that my fuel bills have doubled in 6 months?

I appreciate (and hope) the actual E.ON tariff will be less than the quoted Next 2 Year v8 product, but it will still be a huge increase.

From page 1 of this thread:
If you want to know what the Ofgem capped tariff - the typical deemed tariff, and which is very similar to what E.ON Next will offer - is, put your region and annual consumption into @jimjames webpage. It will spit out a pretty good estimate.
It doesn't include VAT (unless he's updated it since) so you'll have to add 5% to whatever you get.
What do you get if you put your consumption in there?

Not just the UK. Europe and other parts of the World have been hit badly by a lack of supply of gas due to closed oilfields etc during Covid. As far as prices are concerned, this is what ML is saying in an email received 10 minutes ago
    • If / when you come off a fix, you will pay a lot more. There’s no getting away from this I’m afraid. Many coming off cheap fixes will find themselves paying up to 50% more than they were – when they move to the price cap – but there is currently no solution. If you do want to fix you’ll pay even more as the current cheapest fix is 30% higher than the price cap, so for most the premium isn’t worth it.

£3461 including VAT is the amount it shows.  This is actually a little less than the price calculated using Igloo's latest tariff data, so I'm a little sceptical, but I guess it gives an indication of what the price cap effect might be.

If someone had told me a year ago I would be paying over £3K for my gas and electric I would have laughed at them!

Maybe it's now time to look at alternatives rather than relying on the grid.

You do seem to be quite a heavy user, roughly 2.5x the "average". Do you have a particularly large house, or a swimming pool or something?

A 5 bedroom detached house with a mix of radiators and underfloor heating. Currently 3 adults living here.

    Nothing unusual really.

Our gas usage is now less than it was for the first year of moving into the new house in 1999, but our electricity usage is higher, probably due to working from home.  Back then our annual bill was just under £1000 and we had three dependant children living with us.

Shall I look for cheaper alternatives by putting the Eon next tariff on MSE Energy club now or later?

I did but as the heading says, the "big 6" (which are the only ones I trust now) are more or less the same - the variable tariff at the price cap.

Now it'll boil down to things like who has the best / easiest app.

Eons has not worked for the three days I've had it installed.  Not a good start.

Eon Next don't have an app as yet, you'll need to use their website

They do have one. Launched a few weeks ago (not sure why it took them so long).
