Which Washing machine

Well my old Hotpoint has finally worn-out it's drum bearing and at well over twenty years old is probably not worth trying to fix. Question is what do I replace it with, are there any manufacturers which are known for producing higher quality machines? Don't need anything particularly large as only two people in the household. What else should I look for.

Miele are usually seen as top of the range, but are very expensive2

We bought a Beko for a couple of hundred quid on the reasoining that if it lasted more than two years it would be more cost effective than a Miele.Six years on and it's as good as it ever was. Bit of a toin coss with anything that has moving parts. Someone will have a make/model that lasts ten years; someone else will have the same and it will last 2 months.4

You're going to get lots of different opinions! The problem is, these days you often don't know who made the machine - several machines are made in the same factory, and have a different badge stuck on them at the end.OK, so for what it's worth, I'm with Bosch. Our last one did us for 17 years before finally giving up the ghost, and that's with being used for about 5-6 loads a week (big family with muddy kids!). We umm-ed and ahh-ed, but decided to buy another Bosch to replace it. They're not the cheapest, but certainly not the most expensive. Miele have a good reputation, but I really struggle to believe that they are sooo much better than all the others to justify the price tag. What should you look for? Personally, I look for the simplest one - actually quite difficult these days. Will you ever use all of the 28 different programs it's got? Of course not. You've got your 30 or 40 degree standard wash that you use every day, 60 degrees for dirtier stuff, 90 degrees once in a blue moon. That's about it really.A high spin speed is good - reduces drying time. Other than that, my motto is just to go for the simplest. More options = more complexity = more stuff to go wrong :-)2

I factor in the longevity I want, with economy and washing ability. eg. my economical 60 wash can take several hours, that is a time scale I can live with but frugal with power and water. A busy house, perhaps not. But it rated nigh on top with Which.
Machines all vary with ability to wash and efficiency. Comes down to your pockets depth vs needs.

Could be worth visiting your local large library and reading the latest Which reports in the magazines in their reference section

Miele here - ours is very old. It dispenses cleaner and conditioner without me having to do anything much (twin dos) and is super quiet. You can buy from their outlet to save some money.1

I had a beko that lasted 15yrs. It would have gone on for longer if I hadn't dropped the microwave on it just before moving.
I've got a zanussi now in haste. Looks nice, working well 3yrs on.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I researched them recently and in Which? the Bosch came out the best of the 'cheaper' washing machines. I bought one and I'm realy impressed with it.
