O/S Daily Monday 4 October 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry but, temperature has really dropped. Rain forecast yet again and for the coming days. I have relented and put the heating on, won't be on too long just want to take the chill off.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, some LO's - so that will form another meal. Tonight we'll be having fish.
Back to work - we'll see what sort of chaos we encounter today!
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone
Another rainy day here but it is still quite mild so no heating on yet. I have just waved Phoebe off to work, sung Happy Birthday to my 'baby' sister and made and scoffed a bacon sarnie. I have quite a lot that I want to crack on and do today.
Steve had a chat with me about our current levels of food stocks as we have cupboards bursting at the seams. I do have a problem with hoarding food due to childhood issues and I feel a real panic if there are empty shelves but it is time I tackled it and so we are going to be living off our stores for the foreseeable future. I also want to start using up all the opened jars in the fridge as they are taking up most of a shelf on their own. Dinner tonight is going to be sweet and sour pork from the Hairy Dieters cookbook and I am going to make a big pan of lentil soup for lunches. On a side note, is it me or are the carrots absolutely enormous this year? We had a kilo bag delivered and there were only 3 huge carrots in there .
I think the district nurses are coming to do a doppler scan on my legs today with a view to getting some wraps made for compression therapy. I am sick of my leaky leg so I really hope this idea works.
I can hear Lees alarm going off so I will go and put the kettle on. I hope he makes it into college today as the buses are running a very poor service at the moment.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good morning, thanks for the start NMLC.Hope you have a reasonable day at work, it seems that "reasonable" is the best you can hope for!I haven't read back on yesterday, so I'm just hoping that everyone is ok. It was a busy ish day, Ds was doing a short run locally, so we went to see him start and finish, but sat in the car with Dil and dgs between times, the wind was sharp, tho the sun shone. I had taken a flask of coffee and the biscuit box, so we had a hot drink. Must admit, we are a bit of a joke among friends and family because we are usually armed with a flask and biscuits, or a flask and sandwiches, if we go to outdoor events. It stems from years ago when we were a family of five, and I then didn't work, so we couldn't afford cafes. They came back to our house for lunch, and we just spent the day chatting and catching up on things. We haven't seen them for a while, we had been on holiday a few times, and dil's dad has been in hospital for weeks so they've been helping her mum a bit. They both work as well, so have busy lives.I'm just catching up today, we are supposed to be going away on Wednesday to visit Dh's brother in the south west, and I was going to do all sorts before we went, and I haven't.It's nothing major, just household stuff, it can wait.Hope everyone has a good Monday anyway, take care folks.12

Morning all
Its been a while since ive been up this early and its so much colder ! it wont be long before the heating gets turned on in the mornings, I am going to get to work for just after 8.30 so that everyone is not waiting outside to be let in, I think its going to be an emotional day with few tears and I dont want to embarass myself in front of everyone, Im only doing four hours so will be home at lunchtime.
Cottage pie for dinner tonight I made extra mash yesterday and did the veg so just the mince to cook when I get in, Ive got to get myself back into a routine asap.
I heard from Nels yesterday she is still in hospital and likely to be in there a while and she is so bored bless her, she is thankful for all your good wishes xxx
I need to empty the dw and refill with the breakfast things before I go so that I dont have to come home to a mess.
Have good days all and thank you xxxx10 -
Morning All
Dull and dreary this morning but not too much rain yet. Blazing sunshine and torrential showers yesterday but I did manage to get my dressing gowns dry outside which was a bonus. I spent most of the day clearing the living room, took the curtains down and relocated them in the hall, the hall ones may go at the back door, will have to see if I can get a pole up there.
DD and the little one called in on their way back from a soggy park visit and ended up staying for dinner, we had a risotto that the little one wolfed down, apart from the kale, that got sorted to my plate!
Good Luck today Ruby, hope all goes well. Poor Nels, send her my love.
Scarlet, you sound like our family, going for a coffee/cake was a big treat so lots of home made treats for us, we were always popular with the children's friends!
Off to the mad house for me this morning, 4 days and an in-service this week then a week off, although I think DS1 is coming with the DGC.
Have a happy Monday, take care. XX

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the new thread. RUBY I hope all goes well on your first day back. It's good they are breaking you in gently with fewer hours.
No heating on this morning as it feels much less cold than it has been. Or am I getting acclimatised?! We are forecast a sunny morning with occasional light showers this afternoon. I might finally get out for the solar lights etc and put them to bed in the garage until the Spring.
I had youngest DGD most of yesterday while DD had middle one in Leeds for her Northern Ballet tuition. The knitting was back out again with the intention of knitting a Beanie hat with chunky wool and needles as fat as pokers (a kit she had been given) but she found it hard going with the fat needles and thick wool so that was soon abandoned.
So no plans today other than mundane jobs this morning and feet up reading this afternoon. I'll get snuggled under my heated throw and doubtless fall asleep as usual!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies and poorly loved ones. I'm sorry to hear NELS is still confined to hospital so extra ((HUGS)) are heading her way. Take care one and all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"12 -
Morning folks.Ruby - I'm sending you all my good vibes for a great return to work. 🌺
Yesterday the rain drummed down all morning, the sun then came out for a while and then there was the occasional short downpours, most annoying. Despite this it wasn't too cold so a thick jumper over a base layer was enough to keep me cosy.I also got myself into gear and did some exercises to strengthen my right abductors which are still very weak which makes me wobbly when walking. It was a simple step up exercise which I'd been trying on my stairs but couldn't manage, probably because they are exceptionally steep! Yesterday I decided to use my very small front step - quite why I hadn't thought of doing that before is a mystery, anyway I felt better for doing that a few times even though I could only manage ten reps at a time. Baby steps, literally. 😀
After the time I've had I've realised that I need to look after myself much more, the list of things to work on is so long...fat, wobbly, brittle nails, dry skin etc etc. So things will change. Last night I rubbed on so many different lotions and creams onto various parts of my body, my feet will be delighted, my nails will be grateful and my face surprised and smooth!I don't need any shopping so will stay at home. My thoughts have been churning around about the front garden for next year, I'd like raised beds in there but higher than normal as my right knee is dodgy with my left one on the same track. I'll do some early thinking about it and chat with a friend who has some.My thoughts are with all our poorlies and missing, Marie, Nelski, Poppy etc. Happy Monday to all.12 -
Morning all it’s definitely a shade milder here today no heating on I’m pleased about that we have got a smart meter in this house and I keep looking at it through one squinting eye it terrifies me as I’m watching my money burn away but you can only do so much can’t sit freezing hubby has announced he needs his hair cut so I am going to walk up to the barbers with him he should make it it’s not to far I’m not at work until 12 thought we could get it out of the way while it’s dry beef stew is all ready for tonight made from leftovers from yesterday and enough for a sandwich at lunch time. Morning all dog walked and cuppa in hand am off to find some petrol as we have had none in the town at either of the petrol stations for just under a week and i need to go and get DD2 on Thursday I also need to go look for a pair of black heels as my dress for the do is Dark Navy and DD said nude would be fine but i am not so sure looked it up online and recommendations were burgundy ,black, silver or pink .
As yet the window people have not rebooked to say i am cross is an understatement the surveyor had to break the window frames when he came to look into the fitting and so now all are blown going to look lovely for the photos . The roofers will be here tomorrow but they are good as gold and I have used them before 2 new opening windows in the kitchen roof and one in the study/bedroom roof so should be a lot lighter .
DH and I spent the weekend pressure washing the front drive its big we get 4 cars on there and back patio whoever came up with block paving needs shooting in my opinion it seems to be nothing but a weed trap still its done now for another few months
DH is working from home and i need to take him to his eye appointment so i will pop into M&S whilst he is there to look for xmas bits then back home for the boiler service and a quote for removing 2 radiators in the study and replacing it with one upright its the guy we used in the last house so i know he is good and reasonably priced
Right better get a shift on Ruby have a good 1st day back, Nels thinking of you . Hugs to all our poorlies and those looking after them . Have a good day whatever you are up to xxxSlava Ukraini11 -
Morning everyone
Just hung my towels out as it's meant to stay dry today - there was a beautiful double rainbow.
Got a few jobs to do this morning as I don't start work till lunchtime. I want to pop down to Asda as it seems they might have big boxes of lego half price - I want some for little nephews Christmas.
The postman delivered a pile of Amazon parcels on Saturday - I don't know why everything couldn't have just been in one box instead of one item in a box with reams of brown paper! So I have all the childrens' presents I need to buy. I have a lovely doctors set for little one - everything inside is wooden.
Managed to get a lot of tidying and cutting back done out the back yesterday afternoon - it was chilly at first but I soon warmed up. I have some bulbs ordered so will hopefully get them put in next weekend.
Well I'd better get moving, so I'll wish you all a good day - especially RedRuby I hope your first morning back is a good one.12 -
Morning all; the sun is shining here now but I bet it's cold outside.
Making the most of today as from tomorrow I'm confined to barracks until my cataract procedure on Friday. I'll get food in for the rest of the week today - meal plan has been done - and then I'll probably make a cake and maybe mix up the base for some ginger biscuits. I put the base mixture in the freezer and then can just get a bag out, add some golden syrup and pop in the oven. I do the same with crumble mix as it saves getting the food processor out each time.
I bought a Hummingbird Bakery cook book from the charity shop last week so might have a go at some of their recipes later.
The weather has definitely turned here so I'll be checking out soup, casseroles and stews going forwards. I always struggle to make a tasty tomato soup; they're either too strong a flavour or a bit insipid. We might light the stove here later but am trying to postpone putting on the central heating, although it's cold everywhere in the mornings.
Ruby: hope your return to work is uneventful and everyone else's day goes well.
