How can i check how my property is catalogued (detached, semi detached or link detached)

Hi

I need to check if my property is considered as detached, semi detached or link detached. When i bought the house, in the papers there was no information at all about it. Where could i find this information?

Thanks

Link detached is usually via garage.
Semi detached is if attached to the neighbors house via a shared wall with habitable rooms on either side (or kitchens etc)
Detached would mean it was not attached to another house in any way.

For what purpose? To advertise it for sale? To insure it?

In general, you should consider "How would a reasonable person describe the property?". And that would be the answer to your question.

However, Land Registry Sold Price Data holds "Property Type" information. Search for your house here, to see what it says about your house: https://landregistry.data.gov.uk/app/ppd

But if the Land Registry information is a poor description of the house type - it's probably best not to use it.
  • its to buy a conservatory. depending on if it is link detached or detached, the size i can build without a planning permission may vary

The house has a driveway and on top of that, in the first floor, there is a room in my house which is linked to the next house, so i would say it is link detached

However, land registry displays it is detached, so i should stick to the official information

There is no "official" registration of how the house is classified, whether at the Land Registry or elsewhere.

Perhaps the experts on here could help me also?  Standing on the road outside my house it appears my house is not attached to another. However the rear wall is attached to another house, that house in turn is attached to the rear of a second house, forming an H shape. How would you classify mine? If it helps, I have garden on 3 sides.
I am not a cat (But my friend is)
  • Our new house was marketed as “detached”, it is linked to one neighbour via garages “link detached” and the insurance company considers it “semi detached” because it’s linked via the garages!
  • So, for me to understand, I have been told my conservatory can be 3 metres max if the house is not detached. In land registry it is catalogued as detached, but by the look of it, it is link detached

I thought land registry was the official source for this, and if it says it’s detached, that’s what it is, isn’t it?
