Martin is right. Better to just go with variable rate
Hi, I was previously moved to EDF when GNE went bust. I was moved with the same great deal I had with GNE.
This now ends tomorrow. I have been checking different suppliers etc but no great deals so decided to wait until after October price cap to check things again. Just checked again EDF to see if it was worth changing.
As you can see from the photo a huge difference on price for 2 year fixed than if I just go on the variable rate, which is not a lot more than I'm paying at present.
Think I'll stick to variable for now as I understand they can't increase prices until the next price cap in April and obviously can change if any better deals come on the market.

Unless you default from a fixed tariff to a capped variable tariff, then you will struggle to find any supplier that will offer the capped tariff to you. Why should they when it will lose them money? The other factor to think about is what will happen to the capped tariff in April 22. As the present Cap is a ‘loss leader’ then it is probably a safe bet that the April Cap will increase by a double digit amount. Costs of supplier failures will be included in the Cap review.0

I would stick with the variable tariff until March and then take another look at where the market is heading. It will see you through the 6 months of higher gas usage, I struggle to see fixes getting any higher than where they are now as we come out of the colder months, especially if the winter is milder than predicted.0 -
The other way to look at it is that is you had been proactive a couple of weeks back, the decent Sainsbury's / Eon tariffs were available that would likely have worked out with about the same monthly but fixed for upto 2 years with no exit fee.If the trend continues, the next cap rise in April is going to be huge.0

I remember saying the same thing this time last year.

Wasn't intended to be harsh just an observation. Sounds like we both had similar time left on our Avro deals. I pulled the trigger on Sains 48 month fix a couple of days before Avro went. Knew it was a fairly big chance of happening but thought even if they survived, I'd end up with a net gain overall despite paying £35 / month more for 4 months.

A major part of my thinking was the next cap too!!0 -
What I don't get is why AVRO has the amout of customers that they did have. Not once did they come up as being a cheap supplier. Symbio, Neon Reef and PFP were the cheapest suppliers. I check every month. I have zero idea why it's getting the forum activity that it is. Odd.0

Like all these things depends on usage (and what figures you bash into the comparison sites). And not all suppliers appear on all comparison websites. Avro probably did to attract the number of customers they had.that Octopus have inherited.

It probably boils down to, in my case, time versus reward. I could probably have saved up to £60/80 a year by moving to one of the lot you mentioned but to be honest i was put off by the reviews and i didn't want the hassle as i'm getting a bit lazy over the years. I had previous when i joined Coop Energy years ago and bailed quickly as it was a farce from the start even though they had great prices. They clearly at that time couldn't handle the demand0
