Whistling sound
Just bought a car.
2017 Kia Sportage
Recent Service and mot yesterday. Replaced front ball joint and both break pads and discs so I’m told
Drove for about 20 mins today and all of a sudden could hear a whistle sound from what appeared to be coming from the back wheel area. It didn’t just happen when breaking. Was there the whole
Time
Stopped my journey. Drove hour or so later. And wasn’t there…
Sometimes when I turn I hear a squeak but only
Sometimes
What could this whistle be ,l? Any ideas

When you say "replaced both brake pads and discs", do you mean all four corners?
It's possible one rear was slightly tight as it warmed up, with the caliper fully extended to fit the thick, new pads and disc in. But it's all a bit of a guessing game...0 -
I was told they were changed front and back.AdrianC said:When you say "replaced both brake pads and discs", do you mean all four corners?
It's possible one rear was slightly tight as it warmed up, with the caliper fully extended to fit the thick, new pads and disc in. But it's all a bit of a guessing game...I have tried to google the whistle sound and hear examples and can’t find anything about it.If I took it back to the shop for a test drive. They likely wouldn’t hear it as I couldn’t send time rode. So unsure what it could be abs if it should be something I should be concerned about.I thought could it just be cause it’s potential new and needs some time to settle in. I have no clue

Next time you use it have a feel of the back wheels when you stop to see how hot they are.If it’s the brakes binding the wheel will be very hot rather than warm. Most likely cause of the ‘whistle’ is a small stone that was stuck somewhere in the brakes.1

It was likely only the rear brakes were changed:

Could when they have done that cause a whistling cause did something wrong to it ? Since coming from the back where the MOT advisory was fixed ?Grumpy_chap said:It was likely only the rear brakes were changed:

Maybe a bit of muck on a break disc. This is nothing to worry about. It will probably burn off in time.
