1pMobile to start charging thousands of customers if they don't use £2.50 worth of credit every 30 d

Does anyone know if the £2.50/month requirement can be used on anything, e.g. if I get to near the end of the 30 day period and I haven't used it much, can I do a £2 premium rate text and that will count towards the £2.50? (....I'd never normally do expensive text competition entries, but if I'm going to get £2.50 taken off anyway, I might as well do it in a way which gives me a tiny chance of winning something!!)
I can't see anything on the 1p Mobile site which says yes or no either way, so I'm assuming I just need to use up £2.50 in any way I choose, whether text, calls or data and standard rate or premium rate.0 -
I'm sure that spend on premium rate texts must count towards the minimum spend, remember to turn off the bar on such texts in your profile (it's on by default). I'll go and ask their helpdesk when it opens.
Can I draw your attention to ITV's Good Morning text entry competition? You are almost guaranteed to win a Range Rover and £70K cash for just £2! Sounds like a good deal.
Alternatively there are many charitable good causes that make use of these texts to accept donations.
EDIT: online chat confirms above assumption (about premium texts not about Range Rovers)1 -

I managed to leave 1pMobile and get my £30 credit balance refunded in full, before the end of last month.
I signed up to 1pMobile a little over a year ago, so what’s being said about large credit balances being built up by customers is partly fabricated.
1pMobile has always been considered ideal for light mobile users, but the top-up requirement every 120 days has been the root of the problem. Instead of fairly addressing this, 1pMobile is trying to profit from their own predicament at the expense of its customers.
On the day 1pMobile informed me of the changes to the T&Cs, I immediately filed a complaint with the Ombudsman. When you do this, 1pMobile has to reply within ten working days and attempt to resolve the issue. If not, an Ombudsman representative will step in and investigate your complaint.
1pMobile replied just before the deadline and offered to fully refund me. A week later, my credit balance was refunded and my account closed. The entire process took three weeks. Luckily, my 1pMobile number wasn’t my main mobile number.
As for those who haven’t been affected, at some point you will. So, unless your monthly usage is over £2.50, beware.
So long, 1pMobile!

I don't see why it's a problem or a predicament if customers build up a balance, is it some regulatory thing? It's quite clear that 1p mobile will cost at least £2.50 a month due to the top-up requirement, there are better options for very low users such as Asda, higher rates but no top-up requirement, just a requirement to do something chargeable every 6 months.I'm happy paying £2.50 a month but am not happy with them imposing a charge every month if I've not used it enough, I want to build up a bit of credit for high usage periods eg holidays. I'm not affected but will be moving if they apply this change to newer customers.

No longer available from O2, but SIMs can still be purchased for a nominal fee from third party stores (Amazon, eBay etc).
