Struggling to get onto Vodafone via MSE offer

Options
I’ve tried and tried to switch my broadband to Vodafone following the link on MSE.   My best attempt got me as far as putting in my bank details then I got a grey square.  No money has been taken.
Has anyone else been struggling?

Try a different browser / clear cookies and history .
  • Count yourself lucky, mine went through whereupon Vodafone promptly lost me my telephone number, cancelled the telephone line and royally messed my connection up where I lost all BB for 4 weeks exactly. I'm now happily with NowBB.

It doesn't help you, but it worked for me; I've got a matt black THG3000 "Vodafone wifi hub" modem-router here next to me, ready to swap for my Shell Technicolor DWA120 on Tuesday.

It's probably equally as rubbish as the shell hub (technicolor make them both).

You don't seem to be able to (practically) give them away....

When Vodafone failed to activate my broadband service I tried (and failed) to return their router to my local Vodafone store. I literally couldn't give the thing away.

@QrizB good luck with your new service tomorrow, let us know how it goes.

I never got as far as plugging the Vodafone hub in but it certainly looks the business, much more functionality than my Sky/Now hub. Already returned via the free packaging they sent me, shortly followed by my previous Sky Q hub as it happens.

Broadband went offline sometime in the middle of the night (before 0230, when I happened to be awake and saw the "no signal" blinkenlight on the Shell router). Swapped equipment over this morning and everything is back up & running.
One minor grumble; for the last few ISP switches (at least since 2012) I've been able to change the SSID and password on the router rather than reprogram ~30 different wifi devices (7x laptops, 4x phones, 3x Fire tablets, 3x game consoles etc - there's a lot of kit) . The Voda router, unfortunately, doesn't like the ten-digit number-and-letter password we've been using up to now (it thinks it's too weak) and flatly refuses to take it.
I could get the VDSL asettings from Voda and re-use the Shell router but I understand Shell might want it back.
I've currently got an old router running as a wifi AP until I come up with a better idea.

Just a thought, I read on the VF community board that if you change the SSID/password using the broadband app rather than the browser interface then the same error message is generated but it will allow the change to be applied.
