Plusnet email - a cautionanary note

When I was with Plusnet in 2018, their email policy was to archive the customer's emails if the Plusnet email account had not been accessed in a 90 day period. The emails could be retrieved for a short time after this but otherwise would then be deleted ........... even if the customer was still with Plusnet!!!
My case occurred because I used Gmail for almost all my email correspondence (using the Plusnet email service only for emails related to that account). The Plusnet Admin email to me warning that my emails would be archived (and potentially be deleted) went to my Plusnet email account, which I could easily have missed.
Needless to say, I never used the Plusnet email service after that........

Nothing new here, this has been the case since at least 2017, but my parents have been with them since 2009, they don't use the email but I know the email of which you speak has been standard since at least 2009.You could have just set an auto-forward in the Plusnet webmail client to send all those emails to your Gmail if you had no intention of using the Plusnet one. Then you wouldn't have missed themAlso it should probably be noticed email is not a permanent storage solution. Save emails/attachments/key emaiils locally and backup as per normal practices. If you don't log into any email account (free, paid, work or otherwise) for an extended period of time they will expire and their contents will go.1

No MSE should ever be using their ISP's email account as it's designed purely to make it difficult for you to switch providers.
There are several free email providers if you don't want to use gmail.

It's the same with BT email account. If not accessed for 90 days the email account is closed, it cannot reopen it and the email address is lost.0
