Where did the deceased parent live?  Much of what might be done will be dependent on where they died, where all the paperwork (or online version) is and where the various bits of their estate are.  And was there a will??

Sorry for your loss if only that you now have a fuss of picking up the pieces.

fyi - as far as I'm aware your citizenship status is immaterial at least as far as the UK is concerned.

It isn't clear from your post whether you are talking about your own parents, or the parents of a child you have Parental Responsibility for.  If there is a child under 18 involved their rights are protected and in the UK and anything they should inherit cannot just be put in the name of a parent for convenience - but the country of residency of the deceased person will probably be the legislation that needs to be followed.

It's my own parents I am talking about. I am the single child, and I have no child myself.

The deceased one died in a country where they have PR. There is no will.

I think posters were confused by PR. It can mean Parental Responsibility (for a child) but I think you mean Permanent Residency. 🤔

Where are there assets? If none in the UK, then there's nothing to be done here. The documentation needed will depend upon their country of residence, and where the assets are held.

Let's say, there is a bank account in mexico and it is under the deceased parent's name only. I think under mexico law spouse and child will share if there is no will. It seems the bank needs me to confirm that I am happy for the other parent to "handle" the account.

Maybe I should just phone a solictor?

If the scenario you described is the situation in that country, why not just tell the other parent that. They can then find out what proof/documentation the 'Mexican ' authorities need. That seems more straightforward than finding a local solicitor with knowledge of Mexican law.

that's what I was thinking, thanks for confirming my thoughts.

The other parent has a bit learned helplessness atm, I guess I will press on...
