.... and if it doesn't specifically say the service book must be present on return of the vehicle, argue with them.

Taking your premise  a stage further, what else can be missing the spare wheel, the jack, the steering wheel? I bet they aren't specifically covered either.  You will be required to return the car with all the pertinent bits that it came with.

OP needs to chase the garage.
Why are you comparing bits bolted to the car with a little booklet that they've probably no proof was there in the first place and no-one pays attention to anyway?
Who under 70 looks for a ickle-wickle service book?
Receipts and/or a record with the dealer  mean more to me than an easily faked rubber stamp in a book.
Are you aware you can buy dealer stamps on ebay?

You're probably right, but it may say that the car is to be returned with all the items it came with.  Though I have seen ex-lease cars with the tyre inflation kits etc missing.
    https://www.alphabet.com/en-gb/bvrla

    page 12
"All vehicle documentation must be intact and available including:
    ...
    > service record booklet
    ...
All documents must be present in the vehicle when it is returned."

As far as tyre kits go, see page 17
"The emergency tyre inflation kit, if supplied when new, should be in full working order, serviceable, and ready for use.

A canister that has been partially or fully discharged should be replaced."
And do BVRLA terms override the lease company terms?
Like I said, reading Land Rover/Nissan and VW lease/PCP agreements you are only required to have the car serviced and there's nothing that actually how this needs to be recorded, certainly nothing to say a poxy book needs to be present and tamped.
  • Look Bowfer the car isn't complete and the OP has possibly broken the terms of their contract.  So why all the sneering aggro posts?

     ickle-wickle ??????????

I've already said, check the contract!
None of mine say the book has to be there.
And why posting BVRLA terms as Adrian C posted is relevant to this I don't know, as I doubt BVRLA terms overrule specific lease/PCP terms.
  • The leasing company can impose any conditions they like providing it is listed in the lease documents. Not every manufacturer has a database you can check, in some cases the vehicle may not even be serviced by a franchised dealer so the booklet becomes important in those cases. The charge of £400 for a missing booklet does tend to focus minds.

My reception staff always asked the driver for the service book and if they said its in the car they asked them to get it. Technicians are there to service/repair not stamp service books.

I had one customer who used to park outside with windows open and unlocked. On one occasion I went to get the booklet and lock it (he had just dropped the keys on the counter and said see you at 5.00pm) In the glove box was in excess of £5,000 notes. His comment when we spoke with him about it was **What about it? I trust you lot**

Provided said terms don't fall foul of Unfair Terms legislation. :)

my leased Nissan Juke was serviced by an independent, if the book was stamped they must have looked for it themselves and done it as it's not something I asked them to do.
What I do insist on is receipts, the originals of which go straight into the glovebox and I also keep copies when the cars are returned.
Out of what must be approaching double figures in lease/PCP cars, I've never once had any queries or back charges for anything - not a penny.

Recent jaguars have an online service history , no service book. If you have the vehicle serviced by an independent garage then they may well be unable to record the service on the OLH. Jaguar won’t add it to the service record citing GDPR regulations, just telling you to go to a regular dealer who may add it.

Over the years I have come across many cases where simply having a quick look at the T&Cs would have saved a lot of grief. If they say they want the book then you make sure they get it or accept the penalty.
