Asda Mobile do I have to sign up to bundle

Hi we purchased simple Doro phone last year for MIL 81 years old with £20 credit - 12months on has £2 + credit - went into Asda last night and learnt cannot by top up voucher at tills and was given Asda Mobile top up card.

I have spent the best part of 2 hours trying to sort this out...seething at being cut of speaking to overseas call centre twice!!  Plus having one mother in law asking my why this is happening.  Plus to add salt on the wound MIL saying I will go out and buy a £10 phone from somewhere like her sister 79 years old got and through the Doro we got last year away.

Now I have been told because phone was not registered need to get new sim from Asda.

So just got back from Asda with new sim and card and will try again ---- but still not sure if she can just buy top up when needed.  Can someone help.

Can you still have a top up card to enable MIL to purchase £10 top up with a card in her local corner shop when and if needed.  Not some bundle that if not used expires monthly.   She does not have standing orders or direct debit on any bills.

Straight PAYG (without bundles) appears to be still possible with Asda:

    Evolution, not revolution
  • Not sure why phone not being registered would require a new sim but what has happened in last year is that ASDA mobile have moved their service provider to Vodafone and this has required all their users to swap sims. Have you done the necessary to move to a Vodafone service?

Straight forward PAYG is certainly still available with ASDA (I use it in a backup phone) and this can be topped up at any outlet showing the PayPoint symbol using the associated card.

If your husband is intending to swap an old ASDA/EE sim for a new ASDA/Vodafone sim then the date for moving the number over needs to be booked online (so it needs the account details for the existing account), takes about 24 hours and only happens on working days.

EDIT: just noticed that ASDA are due to turn off their old EE service today.

Oh it gets worse...neither of the two I spoke with today mentioned this in fact one said she could register the top up card to either EE or Vodafone then the snag with not having the sim number cropped up, hence trip to Asda Store.
I think MIL should use the credit she has and when it gets lower OH can swap sim and sort it out with Vodaphone. She seems happy to do this.
To be honest MIL will get him and I so worked up - we need a while to chill.

    But many thanks

Could you top it up for her from time to time?

I use an ASDA PAYG sim in a smart device.

I top up online.  Minimum £5 every six months.

It was a new SIM three months ago.  On vodafone, I believe.

You don't need to top up £5 every 6 months, just don't leave more than 180day between making a chargable call or text
