Changing mixer tap - do I need to renew the fittings too?

It sounds like the old fitting was difficult to remove because it was scaled up and if you didn't clean up the end of the copper pipe a bit before fitting the new tap connector the crud could be stopping the fitting turning on the pipe.
I can’t face doing it tonight (the saga took hours and included me knocking the tub which I’d put under the tap to collect the stray water all over myself) but will give it a go another day and hopefully have a shiny new tap that doesn’t drip AND is flush to the deck1 -
