Avro debt
Shortly before Avro ceased trading I received a bill for £1000 for 2.5 months of energy. The bill made no sense as it said I’d used over £400 of gas and £600 electric in that short time. I rarely ever use gas other than for hot water but we’ve not used our heating or fire during this time. Our cooker is electric so the bill made no sense and I cannot imagine my electricity usage to be that high either. I queried it but of course they wouldn’t respond to emails. So now I don’t know what to do. I’ve no way to query this debt and I don’t know what’s going to happen now. I know I’m moving to octopus and I’m worried will they now chase me for this debt and not be able to help me with my query about whether the bill is wrong or not. I really don’t think it’s accurate at all.
Can anyone advise?

I wouldn't worry about it, it was probably a poor estimate. As long as you have your meter readings they will know how much you used1

This is probably something that you might have to take up with Avro’s Receiver: the Receiver will pursue you for payment. You need to get on the front foot. Was the statement that you received based on estimated or actual readings? Have you anyway of calculating what you actually owe based on your actual meter readings and the tariff that you were on?1

@LunaD You need to look very closeley at that bill - look for the letters A,C or E against the meter readings.
At first sight this sounds like a catch up bill following a long long sequence of estimates. Have you been giving Avro regular readings ? Have you assumed that the Smart meter is still Smart. ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -

I don’t recall giving a reading each month. I am now worried I won’t have a leg to stand on but going by past bills Avro are very wrong, there’s no way I’ve used that much energy.Thank you for your reply.0

Just checking now I have E, C and E next to the electric 3 months and E, N, E next to the Gas 3 months.

You have more than one leg to stand on. Look back to your old bills and see what the reading was when the account with Avro was opened. Take a meter reading now and deduct the opening reading. You then have the amount of energy used. You then need to look at your tariff details as of now and it is pretty easy to calculate what your charges should be. People on this forum can help. From the charges delete all payments you have made to Avro and you have a debit/credit balance. It may be slightly out because of tariff changes but it will give you an idea of where you stand. When Octopus asks you for a reading make that the one that you provide is accurate. Take a photo of the reading in case it is needed in the future. Your opening reading with a Octopus is the closing reading for Avro.PS Past bills mean nothing unless the charges raised are based on actual; customer or smart meter readings.1

The E means ESTIMATED ie Avro have to guess.
Find April to June from 2020 and hope there are some N or C readings there - then you can get a better picture/
PS And read your meters NOW - what are all these readingsNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
