  • I wouldn’t..: seems like to our off grid

I'm still awaiting an email from Green or Shell to explain what's happening. So I could be off grid. But I doubt it. The meters are registered with Green accord to the databases.
  • What matters is what address is now linked to the MPAN and MPRNs? If there had been an erroneous transfer of supply, you would have received a Final Bill from British Gas.

The MPRN and MPAN are associated with my address.

still no correspondence from Shell or Green. I do feel like i've been lost in the system / process as i've never received any prior correspondence from Green when a transferred happened (which i have no recollection of doing). Thus i'm starting to think this is an erroneous transfer back in 2020.

So should I contact Shell directly? or wait until it appears in the DNO and gas Databases?

  • I suspect that Shell will struggle to help you. This is likely to be one for Green’s Administrators. If the MPAN/MPRNs are still linked to your property address then this doesn’t sit in the normal ET category. I still cannot believe that you didn’t receive a Final Bill from BG, or a request for payment from Green. Energy transfers always generate a raft of computer-generated actions.

You need to take a step back and deal with this more logically.

You need to urgently contact British gas and ask for the final bill (or last bill they have on the system) for you. You should still have your account number from when you were with them.

Critically you need to find out what the meter reading was for the last bill they have for you. That way you can then calculate how much energy you have used since and how much you will owe. Then ensure you budget so you are not caught out.
Even if the backbilling rules are to apply, you still will owe 12 months worth of usage.

If your MPAN is registered with green, then you will have to contact shell to explain this situation to them and see if they can help you. But first things first, you need to get the last documented information from british gas.

Did you ever sign up to an autoswitching service (look after my bills, flipper, MSE Cheap energy club etc.....or even look at those websites and put your details in), did you ever look at green and put your details in? Or is this just a totally random occurrence.

It is very surprising you didn't notice any electricity bills leaving your bank account for 18 months!! (regardless of whether you were online billing or not!) A lesson learned, but things like this can sometimes happen when lives are busy!

It may be worthwhile persuing british gas and saying to them that you didn't initiate this switch and only just noticed, and possibly go down the erroneous transfer unit....not sure how that will work or whether you will benefit.

The alternative is to try and do a switch to another company now....then give your current reading. See what happens then. The new company may be able to take over your supply then everything will be sorted....or it could also screw everytihng up.....at the very least it will get green/shell into action about an account thats in no mans land. (i'd be tempted to try this, after establishing the final meter reading from your last british gas bill)

Good luck with it all and let us know what happens and how it goes.

So I have got my final bill readings from British Gas for electricity and gas.

I'm going to attempt a switch just to kick things into gear rather than call Shell as I still have no correspondence from Green or Shell. Does anyone recommend a good supplier to switch to? Utility Warehouse are offering the best variable rates it seems. Are they any good and safe from the energy crisis right now?
  • From what I’ve read on here, I think Shell is the cheapest option. I would be inclined to ring them and give the MPAN/MPRN to see what they have set up. Could be an ET & they have an account in someone else’s name. If Green had been billing someone else it has obviously been an online account with someone else’s email address so they will never contact you. If you change to another supplier you will need to be prepared to pay the whole bill from Green as not everyone will do a bi lateral ET
