Advice needed - no outgoings for Gas/Elec for past 18 months now company ceased trading
Don't normally post but i find myself in an awkward position right now and would like some advice on what to do.
Because of all this uncertainty around gas prices I thought I would look around to switch to a new dual fuel supplier. I thought I was with BG but when i tried to log into BG there no account was found. So my next step was to check my bank account and see where the money was going and to my surprise/horror I couldn't find any outgoing related to energy since the end of March 2020.
Next step was to figure out who has been my supplier all along. To find the gas supplier I used the findmysupplier tool and for electricity I contacted the regional network operator - both of which confirmed Green were my suppliers. This adds to my confusion as it seems at some point I have switched supplier to Geen Supplier Limited but I cannot see any emails or paper trail leading to this switch over and the only thing i could find relating to a switch was BG sending out a survey to rate their services since I was leaving them.
I tried to log into Green's website but no luck so I was in the process of calling them up when to my surprise Green ceased trading on the same day.
I wanted to sort out any debt but with a Green ceasing trading I have the following questions:
1) not sure what to do with any accrued debt? will the insolvency company pick this up?
2) why wasn't there money going out (there is no direct debit setup) and haven't been chased at all?
3) will I be automatically switched over to a new supplier and not again be lost in limbo?
I took meter readings on the day Green ceased trading. but have no bills and no records.
This is an honest error as I usually just let bills come out of the joint account so don't really pay attention to it but only noticed as I wanted to switch suppliers.
Thanks in advance.

First thing I’d do is check all your credit reports. If you’ve missed something this obvious, you may have missed other, even more pressing things. Could correspondence have been sent to a different address? Did you sign up with a different/old email address?
secondly, are you absolutely sure the money hasn’t come out of another account?
Green not chasing you seems…. Bizarre behaviour from them.

You can't remember making a switch?
Were you signed up to an automatic switching service, and if so, can you remember which one?
That's all I can think of for not being jolted to memory when you found out you were with green.1 -
Just for info if you were with Green https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/ofgem-appoints-shell-energy-take-customers-green-supplier-limited

Erroneous transfer ? Someone else has moved their account from BG to Green and has been paying Green on their incorrect meter details & their email addy and hasn't noticed that the supply number /meter no. doesn't match theirs ??0

Why did you think you were being supplied by BG? Had you rang them to set up an account when you moved in? If you give them a call they should be able to check on their system to see if they have ever supplied you & depending on if you get an accommodating advisor, ask them to check Ecoes which gives a list of all the suppliers for your property. Should be able to tell you exactly which company has supplied you with the from and to dates. Once you know this you have a better idea of who you need to contact to sort this out. Also ask for your MPAN & MPRN which they can get from the databases0

I'm sure the money hasn't come out of either of my accounts (or wife's).
I have also checked all my email accounts (including work) but nothing. no confirmation.
I can't recall switching, hence why i thought i was still with British Gas and actually looking at some previous correspondence from British gas, I had smart meters installed in June that year (2019)!Crdw said:You can't remember making a switch?

I was with British gas and were paying them and even got the smart meter from them.Curiousgirl1 said:Why did you think you were being supplied by BG? thanks for the advice i'll try find when exactly the switch happened0 -
Are you seriously suggesting that you haven’t looked for an energy bill or bank payment in 18 months? If it wasn’t for this problem, you would have been on BG’s highest tariff rate. If it also worth bearing in mind that Administrators of failed suppliers do not have to comply with Ofgem rules on BackBilling etc.Milkypooz said:

I'm embarrassed with this whole situation and I usually go paperless hence no physical bills. And yes, i was most likely on their highest tariff at the time[Deleted User] said:Are you seriously suggesting that you haven’t looked for an energy bill or bank payment in 18 months? but thanks for clarifying the latter part regarding Ofgem rules.... that scares me.
i've now found out the switch over date but still can't see anything corresponding in emails around this time.
any chance this was an erroneous transfer?
I'm concerned i won't be picked up by the SoLR process and still won't be contacted. if i don't get an email by the end of the week, should i call Shell?1 -
So was your name on an account with BG? When did the supply change and to which supplier and has it only been once? Did you get the MPAN and MPRN?0
