Leedslass83 said:Hi there, I cancelled my membership through the app and it did not work. I was surprised to see over £150 taken from my bank as part of the auto renewal. I contacted ELITESINGLES on the day this happened to say that I had attempted to cancel my membership and I was shocked to see it was still open they denied my request saying that I could not prove that I tried to cancel my membership. I spoke to my bank who retrieved the money through direct debit guarantee. ELITESINGLES and are chasing me through the collections department Anna threatening me with debt recovery and charges saying that I’m in breach of contract despite me contacting Customer Services several times to say that I had attempted to cancel my membership and that their app is faulty. Going on trust pilot and other forms I can see that this is an issue for a lot of people and they’ve been threatened but I wonder whether they actually follow through with this and it affects your credit rating. Considering just paying them off however they are absolute scammers and I am furious about this Does anybody have any feedback and success with this issue.
After it told you on the app that cancelling your membership didn't work, what steps did you take to cancel it after that? If the T&C's are the same as the ones posted above, you've got all your answers to your question there.

Highly unlikely.it will happen anyway.bris said:Do a chargeback from your bank. The T&C's should tell you how to stop auto renewal (haven't checked but they usually do)
As to the OP... there is little doubt that subscription based companies dont always make it too simple to cancel however there is nothing in law that says they have to and if you ever try to cancel something over the phone they will almost always attempt to retain you in a very similar way.
If you sign up to anything going forward, make sure you understand how to cancel and put something in your diary to remind yourself to cancel.
Its one of the reasons we are starting to see more longer trials than the traditional week or 30 days because people are much more likely to forget if its over a couple of months.0 -

The second OP that posted today did a chargeback, or as they put it, 'the direct debit guarantee'.

Assuming the other poster is correct and it was a DD for them then you have many more rights with a DD than with a CPA which is one of the reasons why some companies dont like them (plus its difficult to get the permissions necessary to be able to collect DDs)
Just because a DD guarantee request is honoured doesn't mean a chargeback would. Secondly the other poster says they did attempt to cancel it beforehand whereas this OP stated they'd forgotten the renewal date and only realised after the renewal0 -
AFAIK all recent posts have been in relation to the later poster, so any reference to the original poster is irrelevant.Jenni x0
