yes, I use AVG myself..I've changed the settings so it checks every day, but you can do a manual update at any time

  • If you look in the rear of magazines like "Micro Mart" you will see people sellig sealed copies of Panda, Nortons, Bit defender etc at much lower prices than the shops.

If interested PM me and I will send you their e-mail addresses for you to enquiry - it's not me either trying to drum up trade.

Both the AVG and Avast are good antivirus programs. They do full scans, email protection and are updated on a regular (every day or so) basis.

I don't think you could go far wrong with choosing either of these. There are many people in these forums using both types. I always choose and install one of these programs (Avast mostly) when I sort out computers for people. I know they will do the job I want.

Install AVG for virus protection (I've done so for a year without problems), and a seperate firewall - Zone Alarm is the one I'd recommend - it's also free. If you then install Ad-aware SE personal (also free), which checks for rouge diallers, etc you'll find you're pretty fully covered. I always go to https://www.computeractive.co.uk click on the link to downloads and have always experienced trouble free instalation. + you can read reviews on all these programmes. Remember to uninstall any other antivirus programme you're running before you download AVG or you'll get problems.

AVG's fine untill you get a trojan or virus, then it'll want you to pay for the full version to heal/remove it :(
If you are running a machine with a CPU greater than 1GHz, I would seriously reccomend Panda Platinum.
I work in a computer shop, where we take in a lot of virus/adware riddled machines. EVERY one of them have AVG and Adaware installed on them - Need I say more. If you want a freebie AV programme, Avast seems ok, but I strongly urge you to think twice before relying on free software to protect yourself.

For free, get Avast. It does the job.

If you want to pay, try Nod32 (about £30). It's light (uses very few resources) and is very effective/efficient. I've yet to find a virus it can't handle.

Alternatively, there's Kaspersky, which is seen as the best AV on the market (£47). Most gamers etc... go for Nod32 though as it's much lighter.
