We've had quotes between £3200 and £9k for our move from Surrey to Shropshire (200 miles). It's a 3 bed house but nearly all furniture and white goods etc are staying. Literally just boxes, a double bed and two sofas.
  • I got quoted £950 from Glasgow to Devon.

I used deliveryquotecompare.com put on your move details and companies willing to do your move will give quotes
  • £1200 (approx) plus VAT to move a three bed house 50 miles.  (It’s actually been a move into storage and then out again so slightly complicated.). The best money I have spent over the whole sale and purchase transaction, I don’t begrudge a penny.
Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.
  • My removal cost was a ridiculous £1000, I was moving some of my furniture to a rented place ten doors away.  I wanted to use local firms, and had two companies round to quote.  Both companies quoted £1000 because of the eighteen steps at the front of the house, and difficult access for the wagon loading/unloading.  I did try to negotiate them down without success.  Moving out of the rental to the  bungalow I purchased two miles away cost £600.

I’d defiantly get quotes from the South Yorkshire end.

Does defiance lead to cheaper quotes?
  • I paid £250 for a man & van job but all my furniture fit in the van in one go - multiple trips would have cost double etc, plus fuel.

Worth asking around that sort of service - it may well be cheaper. But you do get what you pay for.

I think we (or rather my husband's employer) paid more than £1K back in 1985 for a move from London to Gloucester...
    #2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £366
  • We paid 1k on Jan to move from a three bed house 5 mins away. They sent three men and a small truck and a medium truck. Our other quote was 1.5k.

With the distance involved 1.2k sounds about right.

We moved from east Sussex to Hampshire back in 2007. Two bed flat. That cost around £600. Prices have definitely gone up!
