How much are removal companies?

We're moving from London to Yorkshire and just started to get some removals quotes. We've got a 1 bed flat without much furniture.
Appreciate we're going a fair way but the quote I just got back was £1200! That can't be right, can it?!

I would say that's about right. We paid £700 for a 3 bed moving 6 miles away. Likely the cost will be for overall time of travel/expenses etc. You could always do it yourself with a luton van rental.0

We paid £1300 for a 2 bed earlier this year between York and LondonOfficially in a clique of idiots0

if you using a local firm with London prices try a removal firm where you are going to. They may have cheaper rates.
Whoever you use has an empty journey unless they get another load to tie in, so it doesn't really matter where they come from.0 -
Agree with the others - sounds about right. For local moves you can do it cheaper with a man and van type rather than 'proper' removals but you might struggle to find one willing to do a longer distance move. For starters, at that distance you will need someone with a big enough truck to take all your stuff in one trip.
Definitely worth getting multiple quotes though. When we did a long-distance move we had a wide range of prices.
For that distance they may well have to pay for their staff to break overnight somewhere as they probably wouldn't manage to load, drive up, unload, and drive back in a single day.0 -
Last year I moved 260 miles from north of Scotland to central Scotland.
Lorry came down one day and stopped overnight in a local business park . Men slept in lorry.
Unloaded next day and travelled home.

You don’t want to know how much my move is costing me from Shropshire to north east Scotland 😬0

We got a quote for £800 for a 2 bed house moving 20 miles away. We’re renting a van for £100 and doing it ourselves with help from my dad.
