Car Hire Claim

We recently travelled to Toulouse, France. We booked our car hire through kayak -> VIP Cars -> Rhodium. When we went to collect our car, the car had been rented to someone else. Rhodium at the airport said there was nothing they could do. VIP said we were a no show. Now VIP have offered £30 compensation for the inconvenience, but no refund for the rental! We had no choice but to rent from another car rental company at the airport. This was 3 times the cost of the original rental. How do we get a refund? And should we claim for the vast difference in cost we had to pay for renting elsewhere? Thank you
