Had a text from VM warning that they're carrying out "essential works" in my (VM cabled) area tomorrow and warning of possible disruptions. Anybody have experience of the likelihood of significant outage? Trying to gauge whether to work from somewhere other than home...

Could last for a few mins or a few hours, or if you're lucky no outage at all. Unless someone on MSE has a crystal ball, no one can tell you in advance how long the outage will last (if at all). Don't you have a backup solution in place, eg mobile hotspot?

Yes, could set up a 4G hotspot if need be, but neither my signal nor my data plan are ideal for doing everything. I'll probably play safe and head into the office instead (and hope they're not affected by the same works!).
  • I get those now and again, being a Virgin customer ( :D).  Nothing much ever comes of the warnings.  The worst I've had is a few issues with the telly box not working properly.  Can't say there's ever been internet trouble.
