You could look into Positive Input Ventilation.  Used to have this in our old house, kept the house fresh all year round, reduced the condensation a lot

You could look into Passive Input Ventilation.  Used to have this in our old house, kept the house fresh all year round, reduced the condensation a lot
I think you mean Positive Input Ventilation - the Nuaire "Drimaster" being one of the best known.

    (I don't work for Nuaire, I promise!)

Thank you, i have corrected it.
Plenty of makes in the market.  We did have the one with heating (Had it on a timer) and it was Nuaire Drimaster.  Very quiet and good value.

  • Thanks one and all!

We're in a 1955 semi-detached bungalow, and had a fair amount of condensation on our windows last winter. That said, it was abnormally cold last winter... and we were too frugal to have the heating on enough!

We've old single fin radiators too, which are just horrendous for kicking out any decent amount of heat.

I'm replacing our radiators soon (for type 21 rads), so hope that helps a fair bit!
I'm a bit horrified by this as like @Rosa_Damascena I think it important to be comfortably warm in your own home so I'm glad to hear you are replacing your radiators. I had mine replaced in Oct 2019 and it has made a big difference.

I generally have the windows open during daylight hours and close them as dusk falls. In the coldest weather I only open them for a scant hour between 8 and 9am while I'm out for my regular morning walk.
When I cook I open the kitchen window and close the door and if I'm bathing or showering I turn the extractor fan on before I wash, turn it off while I'm washing and then turn it on again once I'm dry so I don't get chilled.
I also have thermal lined door and window curtains which I mainly sourced from local charity shops.
If you'd like to do the same and aren't sure which of the charity shops in your area is best for such curtains pop over to this thread on the Old Style board Charity Shopping - bargains galore for 2021! - Page 63 — MoneySavingExpert Forum and ask the readers there as I'm sure someone will have in depth knowledge of your area and be glad to pass it on.

  • Hi
I try to keep bathroom windows on vent as much as possible even during then winter months.
I personally think a well ventilated house feels warmer.

  • Thanks all!  :)

I think, in conjunction with the new radiators and the heating on more to suit our comfort level, I’ll leave the top small windows on the latch to ventilate the house… and see how we do!
