Speak to your bank to see if they can help.  None of the retailers or Google are at fault, so it's down to what, if anything, your bank is prepared to do.

P.S. The good news is that you haven't lost the money, you just now have it in gift card form, so it's a question of just spending it as you can.
Cheers - on hold to action fraud right now, bank is the next call.

The bad news is that husband and I both have iphones and have no need for any google play credit!

How much of the £600 is with google?  Gift cards at Christmas for everyone...?!
LOL!  nah, sadly I can't afford to put that much on one side right now.  :(
Thinking about this again, I'm not sure your bank will intervene, because your husband bought the cards and still has them, so there's nothing amiss.  I suggest you think of a spending plan that does make use of them, because it's possible that google won't refund them - if they do, it will be on a goodwill basis, not because they have to do so.

This is why I said where were they bought (I couldn't understand why three different supermarkets were involved in the OP).

The cards are activated by the retailer when they are bought - I would be asking the retailer what the retailer does when a stolen credit card is used to buy the cards - as there must be a process for this.

A bank wont refund this as the retailer has done nothing wrong. the OP has the cards and the codes - the issue is that the OP doesnt want the cards as they have no personal need.

This scenario could be a lot worse - at least the OP currently still has something to show for the purchase.

Why not call them and ask if you're so interested, it's of no help to the OP.

Bank will not refund as you have the gift cards.

Always love the way action fraud say  "that's a bit weird" Given they should know the scams on stolen gift cards.

Perhaps see if anyone wants to buy some. Christmas is coming and people do give them to family. So long as you have the receipt with the top up amount you should be OK.

Did none of the supermarkets not question why you wanted so many? As some do have limits on the amount you can buy at a time.

I thought the "that's a bit weird" comment was in relation to the supermarkets not taking the gift cards back.

Which if they knew anything about buying those kinds of gift cards would know is decidedly not weird.

There's a reason why they're not fit for purpose and being disbanded.
  • You best bet is to try to sell them on, although you will probably have to sell them at a discount.

As others have said the bank and stores can’t help, you have purchased a product and still have the product, it’s just unfortunate that what you can spend them on is very limited.

This first bit is actually a good point - but I suspect it's the same reason we could do a charge back on a credit card but not a debit card - the former is the bank's money, and they have more of an interest in getting it back!
