Austin Mockrige

RIPLEY1

I’ve seen a post with several pages of comments regarding Austin Mockrige these posts are from 2009 and 2011. Unfortunately we in 2021 have been treated exactly the same, a 17th century house in Par Cornwall which we paid for for two weeks in August. We didn’t get to go on this holiday, we had holiday cancelled by David Roberts who supposedly works for Austin Mockrige. These men put excuse after excuse as to why you cannot have your money back. The story is very very lengthy! But his e mail of brain damage two years agoe is the same as the the reason given to the person in 2009. How is this person Austin Mockrige allowed to treat people this way for 12 years!! And still advertises on stilwell’s website! I have contacted trading standards we are dealing with the situation which after reading this forum looks like it will be a lengthy process! Anyone else going through this with Austin Mockrige?

Given t'interweb doesn't appear to be full of complaints about him it doesn't seem to be a long-term issue - maybe you'll get more luck if you spell the name right
And a quick search shows David Wright is his accountant - predominantly based in Tenerife
Good luck

The name is MOCKRIDGE, Austin MOCKRIDGE. Sorry for misspelling! It’s been a very stressful few months!0

I can't help thinking that an Austin Mockridge must be a particularly unsuccessful British car from the 1970s.

I booked the same property with the same result - cancellation with three days notice. The postcode of his ‘business address’ is fictitious.
has anyone managed to trace this criminal or get their money returned?0 -

No, but you would probably fare better if you started your own thread instead of posting on a three year old one.

Oh I don't agree. The thread is still relevant and it gave us a chance to see the Vauxhall Labrador gag again. Plus a chance for me to mention my ridge, which is seldom mocked.3

This gentleman is still trading. I was on the verge of hiring one of his places but was concerned at being asked to pay in full up front for a stay in late September. I found the rental via "independentcottages.co.uk", who themselves have several poor reviews on trustpilot, partly because they do not provide for reviews on their website. I have decided not to go ahead with the hire.

A very brief scan shows that company is owned by Snaptrip Group, in turn owned by ALTAMERIC LIMITED the directors of which don't include the aforementioned.0 -
As a matter of interest what's the link between Austin Mockridge and Independent Cottages?

Don't think there's any suggestion that Mr Mockridge has any connection with them other than as a lister (listee?).3
