Hi
I have 2 A class dimples ASHP's, even when they are not in use they use about 460w per our each to run!
so basically 20kw hours per day for both. Does anyone know how I can reduce the standby cost?

Without knowing exacly what you've got or how its been configured it's not easy to affer any advice. One way of reducing the standby power is to turn the units off. Perhaps you should discuss it with your installer or even Dimplex as that sounds like an excessive standby consumption.
Some ASHPs have a crankcase heater which runs continuously to ensure that the refrigerant/oil doesn't coagulate at low temperatures but it does mean that there is a permanent power consumption. My Daikin uses around 120w which is just under 3kwh a day, although in the summer I do do turn the system off and just run it for an hour or so to provide hot water. Now it's getting a bit nippy at nights the unit is pemanently on.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
I have an LG ASHP. Since it was installed I have not perceived an increase in the overnight power load on my house beyond the fridge and freezer and maybe a few things on standby; this averages to 200 to 300 W. So the ASHP must be using less than 100 W in "standby" or I would have noticed. Sorry, this does not really help @Peter_Dimplex except to confirm that ASHP's don't necessarily use much standby power at all.Reed0
