Proof of vehicle ownership - 2011
Hello, I am trying to obtain proof of vehicle ownership for my father-in-law for a vehicle purchased in 2011 and he no longer owns the vehicle. My first port of call for him was the dealership he purchased it from. Sadly they don't have that detail because the vehicle was traded in there and they only keep record of the current owner. They also no longer have the detail of the actual sale ie they don't have the original sales invoice.
My next port of call was to try the finance company he used (RCI) but because of the date of this finance agreement they no longer have a record of it. The reason why I am looking for it, is because he asked me to look into the diesel emissions thing.
So I think I've hit a dead end now but if anyone can advise on other ways of obtaining proof of ownership I would be grateful

In that case just forget it, you're just wasting your time. Your FIL will be entitled to nothing.JasonHand said:Hello, I am trying to obtain proof of vehicle ownership for my father-in-law for a vehicle purchased in 2011 and he no longer owns the vehicle. If your FiL owned this car back from 2011 until whenever, and your FiL has suffered a loss against which he wishes to be compensated because of the diesel emissions, why not get your FiL to do the running around as he will be the one to benefit from any settlement received?
If it were me, I would not expend the effort as I would not expect any settlement to be forthcoming.0 -
Maybe not but he asked me to look as a favour. I said it was highly unlikely he would get something back but I said I would look. Its not a path I would choose to go down personally. But families do favours for each other, and its not like its costing me anythingneilmcl said:

Because he is in his 70s and has no idea on things like how the internet works etc. I'm aware there is very little chance of getting anything back as is he. If he doesn't get anything back then so be it.Grumpy_chap said:If your FiL owned this car back from 2011 until whenever, and your FiL has suffered a loss against which he wishes to be compensated because of the diesel emissions, why not get your FiL to do the running around as he will be the one to benefit from any settlement received?

How much did less did he accept for the sale due to diesel emissions thing?
What evidence does he still have for having sold the car and been forced to accept a lower price due to emissions?0 -
Sorry I really don't know the answer to the questions. As I mentioned above I'm simply doing him a favour. He has done myself plenty of favours some I simply trying to return that.Sandtree said:

The claims company have asked to prove he had ownership and thats all I'm trying to find out.
He may well end up with nothing and that's fair enough.0 -
He may also end up with a bill from the claims company for disbursements if he's signed an agreement and then has to withdraw due to lack of evidence etcJasonHand said:

These questions will be asked later on, the courts will want to know. And he might end up with costs to pay.JasonHand said:

If you really want to do him a favour then tell him to stay away from these shark claims companies.JasonHand said:
