Moved to British gas...want to switch asap

After the exciting news of People's energy ceasing trading I have been moved to British Gas. I HATE British Gas. Can I change as soon as possible? How do I do this? Any advice is welcome

I thought that, when PfP went bust, but actually the BG offer is perfect for me. Fixed until April but no exit fee and not any more expensive than most will be, once the next price cap kicks in. I should be moving house between now and April.

You can start to move as soon as you've been confirmed as a BG customer. Just put you annual consumption figures into a comparison site to see what's available. Eon/Sainsburys seems to be favourite, at the moment.

I don't know how much I use. I have never given them a meter reading. I'm a little concerned I've used too much and owe loads of money. Eek

As soon as your supply is confirmed as being British Gas on the national database then you can switch. 

For gas use:

For elec use:
https://www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/internet/en/help-and-advice/who-is-my-supplier/

As soon as they say British Gas, go for it.

If you switch before that you risk it being rejected and it could take longer.

Oh dear -  so you just pay your DD and think its an all can eat tariff.

What meter reading did you give PE when you started


 can you read your meter NOW ?    Hopefully you can find a bill with the letter A against the meter readings

The answer to your question is no you probably cant move. You need to take some responsibility, access your last bill with peoples (probably based on estimates), go and read your meter NOW and see what the difference is. You can then work out how much you owe or are owed. Don't just bury your head in the sand.

I can't get into my peoples energy account. I've never looked at my bill. I wouldn't know how to do it.

Maybe you never registered? If not, click register. Then get a meter reading submitted asap or you may get shafted by the move.

@LADYXXMACBETH   Is there anything stopping you reading your meter.   If its been changed in recent times there will be a sticker with a date on it and meter reading for the new meter. What are they ?
