DVLA Tax Refund Calculation
Comments

Tax was due to expire in May 2022, I had only just renewed it. So there should be 11 months refund due.Ant555 said:rahmehr said:I have been waiting for a refund for vehicle sold in June 2021.
When was the tax due to expire? - Did you definitely have any FULL months to refund at the time of notifying DVLA of the sale?
Does the automated email mention a refund amount or is it just a stock, if a refund is due then it will take 4 weeks.
Plus, was the car registered to your address at the time - the cheque is sent to the registered address (even the cheque itself has registered owner name and registered address printed on it)
Am exasperated as there seems to be nothing that can be be done with these government bodies. As it is now four MONTHS and not four weeks as the email quotes "DVLA will automatically issue a refund for any full remaining months for vehicle tax and cancel any direct debits. The acknowledgement letter and refund will be sent to the address on the V5C registration certificate (logbook), which was used."
The car was registered in my name at the time, although I am beginning to wonder as I sold it to a motor trader, would they have claimed a refund??0 -

I think you are saying that you notified DVLA yourself online about the sale? If so then the refund cheque will come to your address as the registered keeper.
I dont believe there is any way the trader can claim the tax IF you notified dvla yourself - selling a car or even something like transferring ownership to a family member automatically triggers the cancellation of any remaining full months of tax back to the name/address on the V5c at that point in time.1 -
Yup, the cheque for the refund comes through to the old registered keeper, name and address as on the V5C, automatically on receipt of the keeper change - or transfer to trader.Ant555 said:

There's no way to alter that, no way for the trader to get the cheque - it will ONLY come to the name and address on the V5C.1 -
You haven't changed address and not updated your V5C?0
