Pre-move cleaning and feeling overwhelmed

  • Moving week is super exciting but also incredibly stressful, especially with everything you’re juggling right now! It’s totally understandable to feel overwhelmed about getting the house perfectly clean on top of dealing with your back and health flare-up. Hiring a professional cleaning service could really take a load off. They can swoop in after your stuff is packed and make sure everything’s nice for the new owners. If that’s not in the cards, maybe just have a word with the buyers. Most people get how chaotic moving can be and might be more flexible than you think, especially if they know you’re not feeling well.

Just focus on cleaning the bathrooms like you planned, and maybe give the kitchen a quick wipe-down. These are the spots new owners are likely to check out first. Also, it might be good to peek at your sale contract or chat with your realtor to see if there’s anything specific you agreed to regarding the cleaning. Generally, there’s no hardcore rule that the place needs to be flawless, unless you’ve agreed to that upfront.

Most importantly, look after your health. If pushing yourself to clean is going to make things worse, it’s really not worth it. Moving should be about moving forward, not stressing over every last detail. So, try to ease up on the pressure you’re putting on yourself. Chances are, everything will work out just fine.

While everyone expects to clean when they move in, there is nothing more disheartening than walking around your new house and it's filthy. Get a cleaner to help, it doesn't have to be spotless but make sure the kitchen, bathrooms and floors are clean.

Do what you can, hire a cleaner for moving morning but either way don't stress yourself.
We are on our 5th house (plus numerous rentals) and none of them have been particularly clean when we moved in. You can't unpack all your life again on moving day, so I would always do a once-over as I unpacked, and I imagine many people would. A clean bathroom / loo is wonderful. A clean kitchen is amazing (if you can manage it).Anything else is just a plus - particularly if the sellers have left you the light fittings AND the bulbs :)

Still found it interesting as I am putting house on market in a couple of months and reassured to hear different opinions.

And interesting in itself that an AI is drumming up trade for the cleaners of this world!

Drumming up trade for the American cleaners of this world. Who else uses "realtor"..?
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.
