Luckily I had put a couple in the car, so the 4 movers and 3 kids were sorted 😀.Irishpearce26 said:Regarding toilet roll just take it with you, no one wants someone else's manky toilet roll and again its not expected to be there when you move in.
We bulk buy our toilet roll from Costco, so we may leave a small pack in the house as a kindness, but realistically, it shouldn't be expected and I certainly wouldn't be angry if none was left!1 -
Either hire in a cleaner for a couple of hours, call in a couple of favours from friends, or just tackle the worst rooms - kitchen and bathrooms usually.
I did inside the kitchen cupboards yesterday, and I have to say I am glad I tackled the worst ones beforehand - threw away a load of dry and packets of foodstuffs that had been lurking in there forever and gave them a thorough clean and put everything back. If the others don't end up getting done, well, that's how it goes. I have also cleaned around the taps and tackled stubborn marks, and wiped the walls, windowsills and skirting boards down as I see things on the way past. Been doing this for a couple of weeks and it is amazing how quickly it looks better and its almost no additional effort if you leave some wipes handy in every room so they are there when you see something.
On the last days before the move (god only knows when) the hoover, the steam cleaner and a small box of cleaning products (and agree, a couple of loo rolls) will remain and come in the car with me so they are handy when we get to the new house.0 -
I've left toilet rolls in the place I'm selling. Would seem mean not to. It's empty apart from carpets, curtains, light-shades (and bulbs) and loo rolls. There's also a bottle of fizz waiting for the new owner. She bought the fiat on first day of viewing and is a cash buyer. Both these took so much weight off my shoulders I could have wept with relief.Won't be long now before missives can be concluded.2

Agree with packing hoover last!
Removal men usually head off leaving me with kitchen roll, flash wipes and the hoover. Just do your best to clear the worst.
You could be emptying cupboards and cleaning the shelves now, even if the stuff is going straight back in for a few days.
Are the removal men packing for you? I'm sincerely hope so! It's worth EVERY PENNY.
Also agree with maybe getting cleaners in for a deep clean.
Have a think about how you'll feel when you get to your new place (presuming that is what you're doing) and you're knackered, stressed, have your whole house in boxes to unpack and the carpets and skirting boards are an inch thick in dust where beds were and food cupboards are minging. I moved into a 4 storey house just like that and was not a happy bunny (don't get me started on the shower tray!)! Just had to roll my sleeves up and swear a lot.
Good luck.Oh god - it’s not that bad! 🤣 we never let our house get to that point!
And yes - they are doing our packing thankfully.
and to everybody saying “ it’s not just you”… I am obviously aware of that, I was just setting the scene that I’m absolutely done in and not been well, not lazy!1 -
This is all great advice as I am facing the same issue right now! We are moving Monday (a week today). Thankfully our buyer is an investement buyer for rental, so I think she will likely get someone in anyway for renovations.
I've done the bathroom and will leave the kitchen cupboards until its packed away. Then a quick swish with the hoover and that's all I have time for.
As the others have said, its not like a rental where it has to be totally spick and span.

When we sold, we cleaned before we left but the flat was empty a while between us moving and the sale completing. It's not ideal but I think as a minimum, clean bathroom and clean kitchen sink and worktop. So the new owners can make use of the facilities and be able to make a hot drink on arrival without having to deep clean (some people will always clean regardless of how clean it is).May you find your sister soon Helli.

I cleaned cupboards as I emptied them. I hoovered each room when the removal men had emptied it. They started at the top of the house, so bedrooms first, and then downstairs.
They waited until I had hoovered the last room to put the hoover in last.1 -
When we last moved (rented to rented) we cleaned the flat but after we'd moved, we went back and gave the place a once over when it was empty. This was a light clean as the major work had been done before the move.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

If not rented, I wouldn't stress about it.0

I completely understand where you are at. I thought I was organised about it as I started the jobs ten days before, window cleaning, deep shower clean etc, but I'd left the kitchen until last and it took longer than everything else put together.
I'd also recommend getting a cleaner in, definitely worth £25 I should have paid.
