Even for a lower end composite (Solidor or Doorstop) it looks like I'd do well to keep it inside 2k. Perhaps I just need to come to terms with the cost and value of a decent front door.

I would go for the timber if you have the budget, but otherwise composite doors are more affordable and much easier to live with, and for me they look almost like the real thing - somewhere like https://endurancedoors.co.uk/ is good for composite doors, although there's plenty of others as well0
