No STB there but there is  a PVR

no idea what that stands fir
The STB button means set top box mode . This basically is the one that gives full function of your humax box with all of the channels / settings etc. The TV button is just for scrolling through the channels as far as I know .
What happens to me now and again , is that the channels don't turn over when I press the channel selector and get stuck . By pressing the the Set top box button seems to free it .

Normally when I press the power button everything works as it should , but it's just a glitch I get now and again . It should say that in the on screen humax menu somewhere

my Remote is the original black freesat / humax one which came with it . Approx 4 hrs old .
Maybe your remote is different , but may be an idea to double check just in case

no serial no on my remote
  • Forgot to mention , that I haven't a PVR on my remote .
One other thing that may be an idea , is to operate the controls ontop of the freesat box .
It worked for me a couple of times,  when I was fault checking etc ..

Richer sounds who I bought the original box from 10 years ago say the hard drive has a life of around 10 years so looks like it's on its way out.
Never had a bit of bother with it in all that time.
It cost  just over £200 so has cost us £20 a year for the ten years.
Not bad going and a new one is costing us less.

For future reference for any one we could record one channel and watch one higher or one lower as they would be on the same 'band'
Full marks to Richer sounds and I will be buying my new machine from them,
    Thanks all for your help.

The hard drive could be replaced by yourself for about £40 for a Seagate 1TB Skyhawk.  Not withstanding the fact that the HDD is on its way out you could still record 1 channel and watch any other whichever transponder it is on assuming that both tuners are good and the cables and LNB are. Of course the choice is yours but if you buy another satellite box I would check your cables/LNB are good.

I know this topic is a bit long in the tooth now with no posts for a few days, but just in case it's of any interest, our Humax HDR FOXT2 500GB went on the blink several weeks ago following a return from a fortnight's holiday.

The box is circa 10 years old and has been faultless all the time we have owned it. Before going on holiday, I unplugged all the devices connected to our main television and on return, naturally turned them all back on again. For some reason, the Humax display would not move from the "Start System" message it displayed despite attempting a hard reboot and testing the remote control for failed batteries etc. As the hard drive was almost completely full of my wife's recordings, I thought it might be a good idea to take the unit to our very reliable local computer repair shop, with a view to transferring the files to another drive. They informed me however that the files are encrypted on Humax devices and I would be wasting my time and money.

Faced with the choice of writing off 500 GB of recordings and just purchasing a completely new unit (just over £200) or researching whether there was any possibility of having the unit repaired, I decided to opt for the latter.

I discovered a business in Ireland who repair these boxes for £69.95p (price including return postage) plus £20- extra if a new hard drive is needed.

Anyway, cut a long story short, the turnaround time was circa 6 working days and the unit which has now been returned is working perfectly. It also carries with it a 6 month warranty.

We are delighted with this outcome, and my wife now appreciates the risks of having so much stored on a hard drive without any form of back up.

If anyone is interested, I will happily pm with details of the firm I used

Thank you for that, unfortunately hubby has deleted all his recordings thinking it was going to the tip but
We are keeping the box for now, but if I could have the repairers details please.
    Thank you for replying,

I too have one of these and would appreciate repair details, as I don`t wish to lose saved recordings.
Do I need it or just want it.

My personal experience was 5 star particularly as my wife's recordings are intact and she can now be independent again and not take up space on my own storage media :)

It does involve packing and despatching your own box (cost me circa £8) but the return postage is included in the price.
