Cheapest way to double port number with Three

Hi,

Contract with Three and want to sign up with a new contract (with cashback) with the minimum of fuss, cost and least potential downtime.

I can port number to temp PAYG and then port to new Three contract. I know I can request PAC by text (65075) which seems easiest and quickest, but I assume I need credit to do so.

What's my cheapest option for a PAYG sim to do this?

Thanks
Jim.

  • you dont need credit to port
  • There are sims available that offer a 'free credit' level of service, and cost nothing, that would be ideal to use in a 'triangular port' of the type described.

    I'm loath to name them (although some googling will find them) because they are a small provider offering a generous and useful service (including to me) and I do not want them to become the "port-in, port-out, dump" provider of choice.

    Am I just being naive here? Or should this type of consideration have no place in a money-saving site?
  • I thought 3 allowed transfers from contract->PAYG->contract

    If you are, I am keeping you company!  I used to recommend EE SIMs with £5 of credit for £3.50 on eBay, as EE are big enough to cope with 'being used for an in & out port'  :lol:  Alas they scrapped the £5 bundle, which although crud for monthly use, served well for a day or two.

    Other options are the one you are thinking of with the free service & my current provider who have a basic offering for £5 or less which can often be had half price for 1-6 months.

    So yes, we are probably loosing sight of true money saving, but morals have value!  So what networks 'deserve to be used' & allow no cost in & out ports.  Asda have been mentioned before, but I know some (me included) dislike the idea of possibly having to call them (no idea if you would have to, but I think it has been suggested).

    Presumably another network PAYM & using the 14 day cooling off period is ill advised (credit check).

    I think we are back to cheap sims with credit off eBay.  Perhaps look for 2nd hand sims (you don't care if the number is known to others, when it is for this purpose).
    Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers :eek: )!
  • I used to be with O2 and used their "lend us a quid" option when I switched providers as I was out of credit and couldn't send the PAC request text. Haven't had any demands for their money back so far!
  • If you sign up to a new contract will you be in danger of losing your go roaming benefits?
