AVRO Energy - getting a refund

Hi

I left AVRO Energy on 15th April last, with a small credit of around £35. No refund was issued, and my e-mails went unanswered, as did several attempts to ring. Customer service did not even have the facility to leave a message.

Many others on this forum have experienced the same problem, AVRO Energy never seem to give refunds without a struggle.

In August I raised the issue with the Energy Ombudsman, who took up my concerns. AVRO Energy thereafter issued a refund in mid August without further prompting, though still have not issued a closing statement. Neither apparently did they respond to the Ombudsman !

In its decision the Ombudsman have also awarded me more than £100 in compensation, and have required the company to write me a letter of apology.. AVRO Energy have to mid October to pay up, which they are legally required to do, as the Ombudsman's decision is binding on both parties.

Taking up the issue with the Ombudsman was well worth the effort in my case.

Raising the issue with the Ombudsman was straightforward, though you need to be careful to read the notes about the process they follow, strictly adhere to it, and obviously be in a position to provide the evidence (copies of e-mails, bills etc.).

If you are having issues with AVRO Energy, I recommend you look at involving the Ombudsman.

Personally I will no longer be recommending AVRO Energy to others, 0 out of 10 for customer service.

All the best

Colin

As far as I'm aware ,the Ombudsman's decision is not legally binding. If the Company refuse the arbitration decision ,the only way to enforce is via the courts.
  • I was recently switched to Avro by my energy switch guru. They have taken £164 from my account before I have even started a service with them, now I can’t get an answer from anyone as to how I get this money back!

All a bit academic now of course.

Once Avro lost their licence the Ombudsman will take no further part in any disputes, nor are the administrators obliged to pay any heed to things enforced under the licence terms like penalties for late payments and Ombudsman's decisions.etc.
