Hi there,
can someone please confirm if shell broadband are a reseller or they have their own network? If a reseller which network do they use?
do they let you use your own router?

Shell use the TalkTalk network, not sure about the router question.1

Current router of choice seems to be a Technicolor DWA0120 which seems to be very much no frills.1

I've just switched to Shell 38mb FTTC and they've sent me a ZYXEL VMG3925-B10C which, for my use, seems to work just as well as my previous router from Plusnet(BT Home Hub 4?). There's a couple of reviews here:

So far, I am happy with Shell.0 -
You can use your own router with Shell, but just be aware of terminology here, it is the "modem" that connects to Shell and the router is basically your side of the internet connection to do as you wish with.
As many "internet gateways" come as a combined modem and router for ADSL/VDSL connections, the term "router" is often wrongly applied to a combined modem/router device.
If you buy a new combined router / modem device, then all you need is the config settings for the modem - see link below:
https://help.shellenergy.co.uk/hc/en-us/articles/360001044438-What-if-I-want-to-use-my-own-router-
Or you can buy a separate modem, use the above settings then you have a much wider choice of routers to choose from which I'd recommend for flexibility in the future.1
