Ryanair free flight change baggage rip off

Has anyone else been shafted by Ryanair’s free flight change in relation to massively increased baggage charges? We moved our flight (for 4) from Lanzarote (Aug) to Rome (Oct) and the new flight was massively cheaper (but appreciate they don’t refund the difference) but we couldn’t complete the switch without paying an extra c£250. We already paid for baggage and they are now forcing me to buy much more than we need and charging massively for it. I cannot find this in their T&Cs and it certainly isn’t in their headline grabbing adverts. Any advice anyone?
