ADSL Routers

Hello!

I'm very new to ebay and wanted a bit of advise. I have a few spare Netgear DG834G routers + BT Voyager 190 modems un-opened from my previous ISP.

I have put it on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120196233966

But I am wondering if you have any tips for a first time seller, or whether I should sell it somewhere else or have I got the price wrong.

Looking forward to some replies!

Thanks in advance,
Stephen

  • Heya,

    - I wouldn't rub in the 'I'm a newbie seller' thing too much - people may not notice unless you bring it to their attention!

    - Be wary of mentioning other things you have for sale - ebay may see this as advertising items for sale off ebay, and you may have the listing removed.

    - I'd say the postage for an additional item is too much - if you buy two, you pay... um, double! Where's the incentive? TBH £8.99 is a little OTT anyway - what method of postage is that? Have you weighed the package?

    - Only you know if the price is right - think about how much they cost you.

    - Are you allowed to sell these? Make sure they don't still belong to AOL.

Sorry if this seems overly critical, but I hope this gives you an idea of things you can fix! :)

  • Hello!

Thanks for the fast reply and thanks for your tips!

The postage cost was just copied from others selling the same item. But not too sure how much it will actually cost.

Yeah, AOL do not want them back, not with AOL anymore now! :)

But I have received a Best Offer from someone hiding their name for £17. I wondering if I should let it go or wait for longer.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
  • You'd need to check completed sales to see how much they tend to sell for. I think all people making best offers have their name hidden, it's not an option.

Looks like you have sold one lready so it seems OK as fay says cut the waffle and ensure you get the routers to your buyers promptly and you'll soon build up some feedback.

Start buying a few more bits and bobs that will help too.
  • Thanks!

Yeah, one just purchased for full price! But postage is coming out to be £12 for 2.5KG

Where an earth are you looking to get a price like that?

2.5 kg item (and that's about 4 times heavier than my router) is £8 1st class mail.

I was about to say that, and to ask if maybe it's a solid steel router to weigh that much?

I have 1 gem of advice to give you:

Always send items recorded delivery !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It costs less than a £1 on top of normal delivery, and keeps paypal happy if someone clames that the item doesn't arrive

    Every little helps

    I'd disagree there.

It is knocking 70p from your profit and giving you no benefit that isn't there for free. As is often said in these forums, if you simply post 1st/2nd/parcel class and while at the Post Office counter you ask for a free proof of posting, that will cover you for up to £34 should the packet never arrive or arrive damaged in transit. So, if there's a dispute, you simply refund the buyer and claim against the PO.

Losing 70p from each sale adds up, and 'Recorded Signed For' doesn't actually guarantee that the addressee is the one who receives the parcel from the postie, if indeed the postie bothers trying to get a signature (mine doesn't).
